There is so much noise around sleep training.

“Don’t do it too early.”
“You have to night wean.”
“You’ll ruin attachment.”
“There’s only one right method.”

After working with hundreds of children ages 0–6…

I can confidently say:
None of that is universally true.

Sleep is not one-size-fits-all.
It’s personalized.
It’s strategic.
It’s supportive.

And yes, you can improve sleep while protecting connection. 💜

Do these 3 things today to help your whole family adjust to spring forward.

☀️ Use sunlight

Get early morning sunlight to reset circadian rhythms and avoid bright light in the evening.

💡 Watch light exposure

Avoid using electronics during the two hours leading up to bedtime. Dim the lights in your home and shut off unnecessary lights too. Close the blinds to limit sunlight exposure before bedtime.

🌃 Make sure the room is dark, dark, dark

Spring Forward means longer daylight hours, so blackout shades are a MUST! Darkness signals the brain to make melatonin, which means better sleep!

How old was your little one when you sleep trained?

My oldest was 8 months - I was at my wits end and utterly wrecked from sleep deprivation. I wish I’d done it sooner but I was nervous as a first time mom (not yet a sleep consultant).

My youngest never needed sleep training! I was determined to not make the mistakes I made the first time around. When she was around 10 weeks old I started gentle sleep shaping, giving her opportunities to self soothe and fall asleep independently. This early practice resulted in a great sleeper!

In a previous life, I was an elementary school teacher, and I could always tell which students had adjusted back to the school schedule and which ones hadn’t. There were a lot of sleepy eyes during those first couple of weeks of school! As a teacher, I saw firsthand how important it was for kids to make this transition before they were expected to learn and focus in class. As a sleep consultant, I can tell you exactly how to do it! It’s far better for your child to adjust to their new school sleep schedule before school starts, so they’re rested and ready when the school year begins!
