Our hashtags just took on new meaning as rising sophomore Elementary Education major, Jamahr Williams, took the oath of a United States Marine today. During his freshman year, Jamahr demonstrated leadership both in and out of the classroom. He earned national ranking as a weightlifter, made the dean’s list for academics, was inducted into Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society and was the first recipient of the Light of Christ award in memory of professor emeritus, Miss Peggy Young. Jamahr also assisted Strength and Conditioning Coach Pete Townley in the weight room and accompanied Dr. Hutto on several visits to local schools during Literacy Week, Great American Teach In, and other special events. Jamahr will take a leave of absence to complete training for the Marines during fall semester and then will rejoin our campus family and his program Spring 2027. Please keep Jamahr in your prayers as he enters this new calling God has placed on his heart. To God be the glory - your Royals family loves you, is super proud of you, and thanks you for your service to our great nation.

So another amazing event that happened at our campus awards day was that Warner University Athletics Department was honored with the Alpha Alpha Kappa Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi’s Lottie Eaton Sanders Servanthood Award due to their work behind the scenes with the Education department as we support our local schools. As Dr. Hutto shared, she could not do what she does without this amazing partnership. Every athletic team on campus does a community service project; however, Dr. Hutto documented several local school events where athletics partnered with Education to serve children in our local schools. Shout-out to Athletic Director, Sean Hanrahan, his coaching staff, and especially, the future graduates who also represent our university as athletes. With their assistance, the Teacher Education Department has been able to support field days, literacy celebrations, Great American Teach-In, Leadership days, athletic competitions, and Rotary girls weekend, as well as other school events. Yet another aspect setting Warner apart from others - the active participation of our athletic coaches, players and our Athletic Director in supporting our community, especially K-12 students. Academically Challenging. Biblically Faithful. Culturally Courageous. Service driven. To God be the Glory. Every day is a great day to be a Royal, but today was a special one.

What an awesome day to honor the life and career of Miss Peggy Young, Professor Emeritus of Warner University. Freshman Elementary Education major, Jamahr Williams, who also serves as a worship team member, weightlifter, and assists our strength and conditioning coach in the weight room, all while earning a high GPA, was awarded the first annual Peggy Young Light of Christ Award during our campus academic awards ceremony. Jamahr has spoken to classes at Polk Avenue and Babson Park on the importance of goal-setting, hard work, and focusing on academics, and participated in other events at Victory Ridge Academy. He is also nationally ranked in his sport. Despite how busy he is, Jamahr always has a smile, encouraging words, and prayer for those around him. He will be taking a leave of absence to complete basic training for the United States Marine Corp before returning to Warner to complete his education program. Jamahr is a high achiever in the classroom and in his sport, but he truly excels at reflecting the light and love of Christ to all those he encounters, just as Miss Young did. In addition, at the awards assembly, former student and advisee of Miss Young, now Dr. Lori Hutto, who serves as Professor of Education and Chair of Teacher Education, was chosen by her colleagues as the Faculty Colleague of the Year, showing that Miss Young’s spirit is alive and well on our campus through those that knew and loved her. Dr. Verna Omanwa, Chair of the WU business department, and Dr. Bill Rigel, Dean Emeritus, joined Dr. Hutto and Strength and Conditioning Coach, Pete Townley, in presenting the award to Jamahr. Dr. Omanwa was mentored by Miss Young throughout her undergrad program and Dr. Rigel hired Miss Young into Warner. May Miss Young’s presence always be felt on our campus as it is today.
