With the first day of school one week away, Board of Education trustees and central administrators toured facilities today to see construction projects completed this summer and the work still underway as our buildings prepare to welcome students and staff.

Highlights included a new multipurpose room at North Middle School, renovated bathrooms at Village School, and continued progress on the new North Athletic Field.

The summer months are an important time for repairs, maintenance, and renovations across our facilities. Improvements were made at several buildings this summer, from roof repairs and boiler replacements to installing new PA systems and fire sprinklers. These voter-approved capital projects enhance the safety and functionality of our schools while protecting our community’s investment in district infrastructure.

Presenters provided our newest educators with important information and tools for a successful start to their careers in the District. Welcome to Great Neck!

Bravo to the cast and crew of Disney's The Little Mermaid, Jr.! 🐟

Our talented students in the Musical Theater Summer Enrichment program brought this entire musical to life in less than 6 weeks! In addition to learning their lines, songs and choreography, participants in grades 5-8 had a blast making new friends from across the district. Their hard work culminated this week with performances for our elementary enrichment campers as well as a free show for the community. Bravo!

Ground has officially been broken! 🚧 Exciting progress is underway at the North Athletic Field as Board of Education trustees and district administrators celebrated the start of construction on the district's first-ever synthetic turf field and major improvements to the track and athletic complex on Arrandale Avenue.

This voter-approved capital project, passed overwhelmingly in May 2025, is being funded entirely through the district's Capital Reserve Fund—meaning the work is being completed at no additional cost to taxpayers and with no impact on the tax levy.

The project includes:
⚽ A new synthetic turf playing field
🏃 A resurfaced running track and upgraded track & field event areas
📣 A new grandstand with press box
🚻 Fully renovated public restrooms
🥤 A new storage building with an adjoining concession stand
🚶 New pedestrian walkways for improved access
💡 Dark-sky compliant athletic field lighting

Following voter approval, our Business Office and Buildings & Grounds Department worked closely with BBS Architects to secure the extensive New York State approvals needed to move the project forward. Construction is now underway and will continue into the fall.

We can't wait to watch this exciting new athletic facility take shape!

The Great Neck Board of Education held its annual Reorganizational Meeting at the Phipps Administration Building on July 1. District Clerk Suzanne Mallozzi administered the oath of office for individuals who will serve in various roles for the 2026-27 school year.

The first actions of the meeting included swearing in new trustee Marisa Brandeis Kermanian and re-elected trustee Joanne Chan. Both were elected by the community in May to serve a three-year term on the Board.

The Board then voted unanimously to appoint Grant Toch and Steve Chen to serve as President and Vice President, respectively, for the 2026-27 school year. This will be Mr. Toch's third year as President and Mr. Chen's first year as Vice President of the Board.

Additionally, Dr. Kenneth R. Bossert took the oath of office to continue his duties as Superintendent of Schools, and Stacey Pedone was reappointed as District Treasurer. The Board approved the remainder of the Reorganizational agenda, which included the appointment of the assistant district clerk, deputy district treasurer, and professional service providers for the new school year.
