I declared in fifth grade I was going to be a teacher, and multiple decades later I am still living that dream. I started teaching high school in New Hampshire, later moving to Oklahoma where I taught a spectrum of students - both pre-schoolers and college freshman, both writing and literature. While in Oklahoma I discovered my niche- 8th grade language arts. Yes, I kid you not! I loved their quirks and kindness, their willingness to try anything I could offer, and their commitment to the magic of reading. After 23 years with 8th graders in The Woodlands, Texas, I retired and followed my heart to Washington where my grandkids now live. While I still believe reading is magical, I also know that kids of all ages need skills and practice to succeed. My goal is to balance those needs with encouragement and patience tailored to each child’s specific needs.
