School Update: Sunday, August 23rd
Good Evening Lake Station Families,
Power has been restored to Bailey and Edison!! We are thankful to finally have power restored to all our buildings and to be able to begin preparing for our students to return.
We will use Monday and Tuesday to make sure our buildings are fully ready to welcome students back. This includes getting our food service equipment up and running properly, restoring our network and phone systems, and taking care of anything else that needs attention after being without power for so long. Our first day back with students will be Wednesday.
I know that while power has been restored to our schools, some of our families are still without power at home or dealing with other challenges because of the storm. If your family is not in a place to return to school on Wednesday because of hardships you are still facing at home, please know that we understand. Reach out to your child’s principal, and we will work with you regarding attendance and provide whatever assistance we can. This has been an extremely difficult situation, and we are here to help alleviate stress, not add to it.
On Monday and Tuesday, Hamilton and Bailey will be providing breakfast from 8:30–9:30 a.m. and lunch from 12:00–1:00 p.m. for anyone in need. A huge thank you to our food service staff for continuing to take care of our school families and community!
Thank you for your patience, flexibility, and understanding throughout this unprecedented situation. I am incredibly proud of the way our Lake Station school community has banded together over these past several days. Our police department, fire department, Mayor’s Office, utility crews, tree services, city employees, community members, and our own staff have worked hand in hand to help our community through a very challenging time. I have had the privilege of working alongside these groups throughout this situation, and I am incredibly appreciative of their efforts. I have seen firsthand how hard people are working and how dedicated each group is to helping our community recover from this storm.
While we are grateful for the progress we have made, we know that recovery is not over for everyone. Please continue to take care of yourselves and each other, and know that your Lake Station school family is here to support you however we can.
I am looking forward to seeing our students back in our schools on Wednesday!
Stay Safe,
Ms. Pepa
