I was in the middle of a workout when he asked what was for breakfast.
The options were: make something himself or wait until I was done. He ran away and before I knew it, I smelled sautéed onions and heard him mixing up his own special fry sauce.
He'd never had full reign of the stove before, which was honestly more about us than him. It’s always just easier (cleaner, faster, less chaotic) to do it ourselves. But it's not about us! HE made his own amazing breakfast!
Later he said “Whoa, I can’t believe I made those.”

The great news about this is I'm now off the hook for breakfast service.

Last year a boy stayed up until 11pm making caramels. He passed out samples with the confidence of a seasoned vendor.
Our son made $67 in Christmas cacti.
Our daughter has been hand-sewing felt stuffies since March, quietly building inventory for August.
