Heart Strings Mandarin Early childhood music & movement classes in Mandarin for native and non-native Mandarin speakers The curriculum is uniquely crafted.

Heart Strings Mandarin (HSM) offers music and movement classes in Mandarin Chinese for young children and their parents and caregivers. The objective is many-fold: exposure to Mandarin and acquisition of said language, gross/fine motor development, emotional regulation, musical skills and to have FUN in the process! Currently, we offer virtual theme-based classes with live vocal and music accompaniment. There are songs, movement, puppetry, stories, and instrument-playing. Classes are taught by a bilingual music educator with training in music therapy and music education. These classes are suitable for both native Mandarin and non-native Mandarin speakers. Materials will be provided to the non-native speaker prior to class. Some English will be used where necessary during class to enable non-native speakers to follow along. I love interacting with the audience in my shows.

๐Ÿค” What musical instruments will the children get to explore and play this time?

Saturday, October 17th from 11:00-11:30am, Heart Strings Mandarin returns for our monthly Early Childhood Mandarin Music and Movement Class! Children age 7 years and younger, along with their caregivers, are invited to come play with instruments, listen to stories, and learn some Mandarin in a fun, play based environment.

In our Early Childhood Music and Movement classes, we target several developmental goals.

In this particular musical activity, we are learning social skills through music. These include:
a) turn-taking
b) patience
c) cooperation
d) sharing
e) impulse control
f) following directions
g) emotional regulation
h) teamwork
i) personal space and body awareness

Classes are taught by an instructor trained in music therapy and mental health.

Sharon Gan of Heart Strings Mandarin will be back at the library from 10:30-11am on Tuesday, 10/13, for our next Music & Movement in Mandarin!

Zero prior Mandarin language experience is needed โ€“ just bring your little ones for a joyful, interactive learning experience, and together we'll sing, move, play instruments, and tell stories in Mandarin Chinese.

This program is recommended for ages 5 and under with family. Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

We had a wonderful time at last evening's Mid-Autumn show, interacting with our audience and sharing our music.

We started our set with this song I wrote - Moon Song ๆœˆไบฎๆญŒ

This song is taught to my students in my Mandarin classes. It talks about how we celebrate ไธญ็ง‹่Š‚ when families gather to have a meal, eat mooncakes, drink tea, light lanterns and admire the full moon.
