A respite. I am on a respite after too many weeks of going, going, going. I am, in fact, an introvert. The water is my happy place as is my photography. I share here photos I have taken in the last couple days at sunrise and sunset on a beach in Saginaw Bay. I grew up on the sunset side of Michigan. Here, we can see both! Short notes with the pictures.

Fear not ... work is definitely getting done. Magazine articles, classes scheduled that will soon populate our shop calendar, teaching positions at festivals applied for, lots of new heddles made with an inkle that will be warped, and plenty of research (that is reading knitting and weaving articles and books while cuddled on the couch). This is my perfect respite. Oh yes, and being with three friends who pull me from my computer and handwork to play games and laugh. Life is GOOD.

It’s off the loom! This wee little inkle weaves a very respectable band. At 13” inches long, give or take, it would make a nice watchband, keychain … or … so fun! Thanks to weaver Jeff for this sweet gift.

Yesterday was skein judging day at Michigan Fiber Festival. 58 very beautiful skeins. The new categories (in line with knitting yarn standard sizes) made judging much easier and, more equitable. Here are a few pictures and a couple stories with them.

I came across this UFO swatch this morning whilst looking for something else. I think I might have been planning for it to be a cardigan because it has stitches set aside for cutting (steeking), but it has been so long I don’t remember! That said, I do see potential so I will put it in the queue for future consideration.

I am more than a little excited about this upcoming teaching opportunity. Check it out! No prior weaving experience necessary.

Today was the second and final day of our learn to weave on the rigid heddle class. This short video makes me smile. It was a really nice group to work with.

Sleeping on it does help. Along with a tip or two from the instructor. Robbie LaFleur is a generous, easy to follow instructor and that helps a lot.

I “finalized” my design and have already deviated from it. I’ve included a photo of the cartoon and of how far I’ve gotten. I need to dig in my stash or order more greens to get the look I want. It’s always something. Hope my stash comes through!

This tapestry may take a while, but I’m good with that. It’s a bit large for the first time out, as Robbie gently pointed out as we were discussing design. I think I will squeeze in a smaller piece to practice before going full steam ahead!

The finished piece is one of Robbie’s. You can learn more in her Norwegian Textile Newsletter and in her blog. https://norwegiantextileletter.com/
