VEHICLE VS. BUILDING COLLAPSE RESCUE
2½-Day Hands-On Rescue Operations Course
This intensive course combines one-half day of lecture with two full days of hands-on training and scenario-based operations. The program focuses on the unique challenges faced by initial-arriving companies, special service companies, and heavy rescue personnel during vehicle-versus-building and structural collapse incidents.
Students will examine tactical priorities, command decision-making, resource allocation, and rescue operations while working with local and regional tool caches and equipment commonly found on collapse rescue incidents.
A dedicated tool and equipment lab will introduce students to multiple styles and types of rescue struts, stabilization systems, extrication equipment, lifting equipment, and associated tools. Students will then rotate through multiple skill stations before progressing into full-scale, scenario-based rescue operations.

All hands-on skills and scenarios will utilize real vehicles and a large acquired structure, providing students with realistic working conditions and the opportunity to apply rescue techniques in an environment that closely replicates an actual collapse incident.

COURSE PHILOSOPHY
This isn’t a classroom-only collapse course. Students will build, stabilize, lift, shore, extricate, search, and operate.
The goal is to develop the decision-making and hands-on skills necessary to safely operate when a vehicle, building, and trapped occupants are all part of the same problem.
