📞Cell Phone & Personal Electronic Device Policy

In accordance with Florida law, students may not use cell phones or any other wireless communication devices during the school day. This includes, but is not limited to, cell phones, tablets, smart watches, gaming devices, earbuds, and headphones.

The school day at MKMS is defined as:

* Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday: 9:30 a.m. – 4:05 p.m.
* Wednesday: 9:30 a.m. – 3:05 p.m.

Students may have these devices in their possession; however, they must remain silenced, stored away in their backpack, out of sight, and not in use throughout the entire school day. This means devices may not be used during class, passing periods, lunch, or any other time during the instructional day. Students may use their devices before school begins and after the school day ends.

Students who use a device during restricted times will be subject to disciplinary consequences in accordance with school and district policy.

Parents and Guardians: We kindly ask that you do not call or text your student during the school day. While we understand the desire to stay connected, responding to messages during school hours could result in disciplinary consequences for your child.

If you need to communicate an important change, such as a transportation update (for example, a change from bus rider to car rider), please call the school office. We will ensure the message is delivered promptly to your child.

🩹Parental First Aid Consent Required🩹

Due to Florida Statute 1014.06 (Parents’ Bill of Rights – Parental Consent for Health Care Services), schools must have affirmative parental consent on file in Skyward before providing routine health care services to students. Without this consent, even basic first aid—such as applying a Band-Aid, providing an ice pack, taking a student’s temperature, covering a wound, or applying anti-itch cream (such as calamine lotion)—cannot be provided at school.

If you have not already done so, please complete the Health Services Consent form in Skyward as soon as possible. This consent is required each new school year and allows our clinic staff to provide routine care when your child needs it.

Student ID Badges: Students will receive their ID badges in their 1st period class on Monday, 8/10. If they had a schedule change and their 1st period teacher does not have their ID badge, the Deans will be distributing those during lunches on Monday. Students need to wear their ID badges at all times for safety and security reasons. They will also need them to get back into buildings if they leave to go to the front office, clinic, etc. as the entrances to our classroom buildings are locked throughout the school day and students need their ID to activate the access control panel to gain entrance back into the building.
