So much has changed since I first shared this post and we are facing new challenges and struggles. It is so important to keep your children active and involved in social activities outside of the home and away from the screen. I myself learned many things on the playground growing up and that social time was a valuable thing. Too many kids are self isolating or are keeping a very small circle and this will not serve them well in the real world. Learning conflict resolution and to deal with people and problems is essential for success and happiness. Hope you have a happy and healthy school year! 👊👊💪🙏🙏
Back to School
It is that time of the year again for new beginnings and fresh starts. I always look at the new school year as an opportunity for our students to set new goals. Good grades and a happy school life do not come as easy for some kids as it does for others. I believe one of the key factors is who our children choose as friends both in and out of school. As parents we need to be mindful of who, what , where, why and when as it pertains to all things in our children's life. Now is the perfect time to set boundaries and expectations for the school year. Keep your children involved in positive activities and there will be less time for the negative things to find them.
Talk to your children about bullying. I have long been teaching my students that Bullying is not to be tolerated by them or anyone in their circle of friends and if they witness any bullying they should report it at the very least. Not all children have the tools to stand up for themselves.
Keep an eye on your child's social media! I can not stress this enough. If you have allowed your child to be on social media and even if you have not there is a good chance they are on it. Time after time I come across parents who are shocked at what they find when they discover the truth.
Limit the time spent on gaming! If your child is keeping up on school work and is involved in outside activities there is probably not an issue however if your child is spending a vast majority of their free time and wants to do little else you might want to take a look at why this has become such a big priority.
If your child is firing on all cylinders you might want to encourage them to take a struggling kid under their wing. Teach them that they can make a difference!
