Heavenly wisdom is seeing life through God's eyes and responding as Christ would. It is not something we achieve on our own, but a gift that God graciously gives to those who seek Him.
"But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere." James 3:17

When we read that list, we quickly recognize that James is describing the very character of Jesus Himself. The pursuit of heavenly wisdom is ultimately the pursuit of becoming more like Jesus and seeking the will of the Father as Jesus did. As our students grow in wisdom, our prayer is that they also grow in purity, kindness, humility, mercy, integrity, and sincere love for others… to be filled with the fullness of Christ.

As we prepare for another school year together, I want to share with you the Scripture that will serve as our theme and prayer throughout the 2026-2027 school year:
"If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you." James 1:5

The book of James challenges believers to move beyond simply hearing God's Word and instead to faithfully live it out in every area of life. He continually points us toward a faith that is genuine, steadfast, humble, and completely devoted to Christ. That calling aligns beautifully with the mission of Mt. Zion Christian School.

While we certainly desire academic excellence, our greatest desire is to help our students know Christ, love Him, and become more like Him in the way they think, speak, and live. When our students and staff face day-to-day challenges, they will strive to face them with Joy and seek to approach them with wisdom and attitude of Christ.
"Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you." James 1:2-5

Our desire this year is that we would not be a people with divided hearts or divided loyalties. Instead, we want to pursue Christ with wholehearted devotion, seeking His wisdom above the wisdom of the world. James calls believers away from being double-minded and toward unwavering faith that trusts God completely.
"Submit yourselves, then to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded." James 4:7-8

True wisdom always leads us toward humble dependence upon God rather than confidence in ourselves.
"God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble." James 4:6
"Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.” James 4:10

As a school community, this is our prayer for the coming year: that every student, parent, teacher, staff member, and board member would wholeheartedly and humbly seek to live in God’s will and would continually ask God for His wisdom.

Would you join us in making James 1:5 a daily prayer for your family?

Pray that our students would love God's Word and seek His wisdom above all else. Pray that our teachers would teach with wisdom and grace. Pray that our families would be united in pointing our children toward Christ. And pray that God would use Mt. Zion Christian School to raise up young men and women of God whose lives reflect Christ and the wisdom that comes from heaven.

As James promises, God gives wisdom generously to those who ask. What an incredible invitation! May we come before Him together this year with humble hearts, confident that He will faithfully guide us as we seek to know Him more and become more like His Son.

I am excited to see how God will work in and through our school during the year ahead.

To God be the Glory,
Jacob Coehoorn

🎥 Dear Mt. Zion Families,
If you haven’t had a chance to watch this special video created by the talented Kitty Cisler featuring our 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students, take a few minutes, and enjoy!

Watching these young people grow in their faith, develop their God-given gifts, and shine brightly for Jesus fills our hearts with gratitude and joy. It’s amazing to see how much they have grown, not only in academics, but in character, friendships, and their walk with the Lord.

Thank you to every family who chooses to partner with Mt. Zion Christian School. Together, we are planting seeds of faith, nurturing godly character, and helping prepare students for lives of purpose, service, and eternity.

As you watch, we hope you’ll smile, laugh, and treasure the many memories captured along the way. These moments remind us just how quickly childhood passes and how precious each school year truly is.

We pray your summer is filled with sunshine, laughter, adventure, and countless blessings. Enjoy every moment, you’ve earned it! ☀️
