Excited to celebrate Juan Pablo Esquivel '14, a Chicago educator and recipient of the Surge Fellowship, a 10-month experience supporting emerging leaders of color in education for this month's alumni Forester Feature!

Esquivel has spent more than a decade expanding opportunities for students and is now examining the systems that shape educational access and imagining how they can become more equitable.

His passion for education was shaped at Lake Forest College, where professors challenged him to think critically about systems, opportunity, and social change—and took the time to truly know him.

“I had professors who didn’t just see me as another number.”

Today, Esquivel is paying that experience forward, helping students see possibilities for themselves and envision futures they may not have thought possible.

What a special Forester reunion! ❤️

We were honored to welcome Yvette Manard ’74, Glendolyn Grant Newmuis ’74, and Ellenda Travis ’74 (AX) back to campus for a special mini-reunion. Traveling from Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Memphis, respectively, they came together to celebrate a friendship that began as work-study students in the Donnelley and Lee Library—and has continued for more than 50 years!

It was such a joy to give them a campus tour and spend some special time with Spike, reflecting on yearbook photos and memories from their time as students. Those are the moments that remind us just how powerful the connections made at Lake Forest College can be—and how they can last a lifetime.

As the first in her family to attend college, Kristal '30 arrived at Lake Forest College with excitement and big dreams for the future. Today, she is learning in small classes where professors know her by name, discovering new interests, and pursuing her goal of becoming a physician assistant.

"I felt right at home the moment I stepped onto campus. The generosity of the Lake Forest College community has given me the opportunity to pursue an education that I otherwise may not have been able to experience. I hope future Foresters can receive the same opportunities and feel the same sense of belonging that I have found here."

Join us for a lecture by the winner of the Pulitzer Prize for his 2023 biography of Martin Luther King Jr., titled "King,” Chicago's Jonathan Eig! Eig will share his insights into the civil rights leader's efforts to secure full voting rights for African Americans and the consequences of the recent weakening of the Voting Rights Act under the Roberts Supreme Court.

Join us on Thursday, September 24 at 4:00 pm for the annual Rosemary Hale Lecture featuring Canice Prendergast, W. Allen Wallis Distinguished Service Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business!

Prendergast has been involved in implementing market designs to aid the distribution of food to the poor and optimally distributing Covid-19 vaccines during the pandemic. He has studied the oversight of police officers, the art market, and the optimal design of bureaucracies.
