District 115 Opens Itself to Massive Potential Financial Liability
In response to the board’s denial of the recommendations of both the Illinois and Lake County Departments of Health, our parent organization, the Illinois Education Association, has sent the attached letter to our membership, our Board, and the administration to make them aware that “such action endangers the health and safety of students and staff. [The LFEA] has advised the District against taking such a reckless course. Not only has the school board acted to endanger those very persons that it is obligated to protect but it may be putting the assets of the District in peril.” Furthermore, “ignoring the public health concerns presented by both the Illinois and Lake County Boards of Health, the decision to continue in-person learning is potentially not mere negligence but may rise to the level of willful and wanton conduct and intentional action, removing the board and its administration from the statutory protections afforded in the statute [protecting the district against liability].”
