It is with great excitement that we announce the hiring of the next Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities, Prof. Harold Wright.
Harold Wright is a PhD candidate at Florida State University! He earned his MME from Florida State University and BME from Baldwin-Wallace College, Conservatory of Music. Serving twelve years as a public-school educator, Mr. Wright taught at three different schools in grades K-12. Courses taught include chorus, piano, musical theatre, general music, handbells, and secondary music appreciation. Mr. Wright has served as coordinator and clinician for multiple All-County Chorus Festivals in central Florida. He was awarded Teacher of the Year at Davenport School of the Arts. Outside of school teaching, Mr. Wright served as a church choir director for eleven years at Grace Lutheran Church in Lakeland, FL. In addition to his academic studies at FSU, Mr. Wright is the Artistic Director and Conductor for the Orlando Gay Chorus. With almost 200 singers, OGC is one of the largest LGBTQIA+ mixed-voice choruses in the United States. Over his four years as artistic director and conductor, the chorus has experienced significant growth in the number of singers and have performed around the state of Florida with regularly scheduled performances in the prestigious Steinmetz Hall in Orlando. The chorus also performed at the 2024 GALA International Festival at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis. A certified adjudicator for the Florida Vocal Association, Mr. Wright is also an active member of the following professional organizations: Florida Vocal Association, Florida Music Educators Association, National Association for Music Education, American Choral Directors Association, and GALA Choruses.
