Day 2 Texas School Safety Center SBLE Master Course:

Today’s training started off with a lecture on “The Adolescent Brain”. Pretty neat stuff learning about the science behind the development stages of the children were are entrusted to protect.

One of the topics was an in-depth discussion on the “pleasure” neurotransmitter known as Dopamine.
What better segue than to deliver warm Krispy Kreme donuts and highlight training opportunities with !!

Just completed a GREAT first day of training at the Texas School Safety Center TCOLE #41505 Master course. Learned a lot about Social Media Investigations and the powerful tools available to my agency. Looking forward to Day Two!!

While training local armed school faculty members this week out in Wise County, we got to witness something pretty cool. A promotion ceremony for my great friend, Casey Carter, in which my other buddy, Todd Taylor, had the honor of ceremoniously pinning on his new badge!

This was an especially neat occasion because all three of us had retired from the same former agency and now get to cheer on and support one another along our new journeys in public service.

Shout out to Felicity Frankland and Johnny Copley as well! It was great spending time with all four of you this week and catching up. You have a great team there at Wise County Sheriff's Office!

🛡 Preparation matters long before an emergency ever happens.

This week we had the opportunity to train the security officers of Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District on the effective deployment of ballistic shields and breaching tools; both critical equipment now required by the State to be available at every ISD campus.

Hands-on training ensures officers are confident, capable, and prepared to respond when every second counts. We’re proud to help equip those who are dedicated to protecting students, staff, and their communities.

Developed and delivered by Cinco Peso Training Group instructors Dorcia Meador and Rocsana Ferren, this challenging training course capitalizes on key differences that exists between female law enforcement officers and their male counterparts.
Despite the many characteristics shared by professional male and female police officers, there are some areas where differences do exist. Even our bodies are different. Maximizing on areas of strength and center of mass can have great impact on the proper technique relied upon for the rapid apprehension of a suspect or the landing of an effective defensive counterstrike.

Dorcia holds many NRA National Records in police fi****ms competitions, and is amazing in her ability to connect with a student when passing on the fundamentals that has made her so successful on the national stage.

A Witness to History visits Cinco Peso Training Group.
May 18, 2026
Yesterday, I was honored to have my good friends, Tom Wafer, Russel Graves and Ron Hale, bring along another Dallas PD retiree for their annual retired officer qualification.

These men, each DPD legends in their own right, introduced me to Roy Lowery and said, "Mike, you've seen Roy before." Sure enough, I had! He's the sharped dressed detective standing two over from Lee Harvey Oswald as Jack Ruby fired that fatal shot for all the world to see.

As Detective Jim Leavelle (a Pearl Harbor survivor, himself) spun around to face Jack Ruby, his body likely shielded Roy's from any additional shots Mr. Ruby could have fired if given the opportunity.

Following his appearance on the world stage, Detective Lowery went on to become a legendary detective within DPD. He served in the Intelligence Division played a pivotal role in some of Dallas' most notorious kidnappings, murders and Mafia cases.

At 94 years old, he's still shooting straight and hammering those bullseyes during qualification! Please let Detective Lowery know how much we appreciate his service to us all!
