It was a blast meeting hard hat diver and demo expert Wilson Jones. As part of the salvage team for the SS Georgiana, Jones used his expertise to dislodge these Blakely rifled cannons from the shipwreck and lift them to the surface. He was kind enough to donate a spoon from the salvage operation that will soon be exhibited with the cannons.

History isn't just found in thick textbooks or distant museums—it’s right here in our own backyard. When kids (and adults!) color the pages of Marion’s Merry Men of the P*e Dee, they aren't just filling in lines. They are connecting with the real people who fought for freedom right along our rivers, swamps, and old roads. 🌾🐎
Here is why sharing these stories matters so much right now:
They teach grit and creativity: Francis Marion and his men didn't have a massive army or endless supplies. They relied on local knowledge, quick thinking, and pure determination. That’s a lesson in resilience every kid can use today.
It makes history tangible: It’s one thing to read a date on a page; it’s another to color a picture of a scout navigating the dense Carolina swamps. Visual storytelling helps history "stick" for young minds.
It honors our roots: The road to American independence ran straight through South Carolina. By learning about the partisan fighters of the P*e Dee, the next generation learns to appreciate the deep historic roots beneath their feet.
History belongs to the generation that remembers it. Let’s make sure our kids know the incredible adventures and sacrifices that happened right here at home.
