Take Stock In Children Florida Gateway College

Take Stock In Children Florida Gateway College TSIC is a statewide non- profit mentoring program that provides deserving low income students scholarships, mentors and hope.

Take Stock in Children is a statewide non-profit mentoring program that provides an opportunity for deserving students to earn a two-year tuition scholarship. The Foundation for Florida Gateway College is the lead agency for the Florida Gateway College Take Stock in Children Program, which serves, Baker, Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist and Union Counties. Scholarships for the local program are to Flori

da Gateway College. Eighth grade students whose households meet the income guidelines for free or reduced lunch can apply for the program. Students do not have to receive free or reduced lunch, but they must be eligible. Students must be enrolled in the county where they are applying. Students selected for the program agree throughout high school to: stay off drugs; stay crime free; maintain at least a 2.5 grade point average; maintain good citizenship both in and out of school; sign a Take Stock in Children agreement; participate in TSIC events; and meet with an assigned mentor each week. TSIC also provides College Readiness workshops and meetings with a College Success Coach to prepare students for entering college. Graduates from the program also receive transitional support at Florida Gateway College. Mentors are volunteers from the community who meet 30 minutes a week, one-on-one, with a mentee on the school campus. Mentors provide their mentees with a solid support system through moral support and encouragement in order to help them graduate high school and continue their education. All mentors are asked to commit to mentoring their student for one full school year.

We had a fantastic time connecting with students and families at the Buffalo Creek Middle School Back-to-School event last week!

Our very own Meloney Jones, College Readiness Coach, was on site to share valuable resources, talk about college and career guidance, and highlight how Take Stock in Children supports scholars every step of the way.

From scholarship pathways to mentorship opportunities, we are ready to make this school year a resounding success! πŸ’™πŸ“š

Outstanding Senior Spotlight: Juan πŸ’™πŸŽ“

We're proud to recognize Juan from Take Stock In Children Florida Gateway College for his extraordinary leadership, artistry, and commitment to bringing people together through music and service.

A senior at Fort White High, Juan is graduating as Valedictorian with a 4.0 GPA. He served as Student Body President, founded the Voices of Columbia Community Choir, performed as an All-State Choir member three years running, and co-directed productions with Tiwahe Theatrics, all while serving as a worship leader at his church and founding his school's Model United Nations program.

This fall, Juan heads to Yale University to study Choral Music Education, with a vision of becoming a choral and orchestral conductor.

Through Take Stock in Children, Juan learned that he never has to go through anything alone, and that letting people into your life who are willing to encourage and support you makes all the difference.

This is only the beginning. We are so proud of you, Juan. πŸ’™
