Today's the day...

Candidate Connections starts in a few hours and you should be there!!!
While we love to focus our attention on State and Federal elections we can't forget the importance of our local downballot races!! These are just as important if not more because these local seats are where the " Chickens come home to roost!".

We had too many seats unchallenged and we allow incumbents to sit too long which causes complacency. You may not think that this is an issue until something isn't ruled in your favor, a data center is given a tax incentive and is destroying your community, there's a school closure etc.

Who occupies these seats matter! Today you will have an opportunity to hear from candidates that put the time aside to be accountable to the community they want to serve! You will have the opportunity to ask them questions. If you don't get a chance to ask your question, some of the candidates will be tabling from 12:20 until 1pm.

All day you will be able to register to vote, check your registration, sign up for rides to the polls, and pick up a take home copy of the Amendments. The line up of candidates is posted with one slight deviation from the schedule.
The city court judicial candidates will start at 9:20. So, come out, sit a minute, and get engaged! An educated voter is a dangerous voter!

Candidate Connections Schedule

This event is FREE to the community and gives citizens the opportunity to 'Connect' with the important Contested races in our area. This is a " Nonpartisan " event and all candidates have been invited regardless of party affiliation. Races include the 3rd Congressional District; Calcasieu Parish Magistrate Judge; 14th JDC Family Court Div. J; Sulphur City Court; and all 3 Contested School Board Seats. Candidates will each present for 10 minutes and then will asnswer questions from the audience for 10 minutes. Citizens will also have a chance to meet with the Candidates 1:1 in the breakout room for a Candidate " Meet and Greet" .

ACCESS IS EVERYTHING...Voter Education is essential to making informed decisions at the polls!!

RISE Louisiana RISE is back and believes that having access to the candidates is now more important than ever.

On August 22, 2026 at New Sunlight Baptist Church candidates will be invited to participate in a "Nonpartisan" event called Candidate Connections. It does not matter what letter is behind your name, candidates in "contested races" that impact our area will be invited to participate in this event.

"ALL"Candidates will receive invites via email and will have a deadline to RSVP. Candidates will be grouped together according to the race they qualified in. Candidates will have 10 minutes to present to their constituents and 10 minutes to answer questions submitted via comment card. In between breaks candidates will be allowed to "Table" in the breakout room, and meet their constituents in person. There you can meet with the candidates 1:1 and ask other questions you may have for them.

This is an all day event to ensure that everyone who wants to be heard has a platform to meet with you!

The races that will be slated for the 22nd are the following:

3rd Congressional District; 14th JDC. Div. J ( Family Court); 14th JDC Magistrate Judge; Sulphur City Court, LC City Court, Div. B; CPSB Districts 1, District 2 and District 13.

*If your opponent does not participate in Candidate Connections, it does not bar you from the days activities!! Everyone will be invited and the choice is theirs. You will still be allowed to present and Table.

At "Candidate Connections" we will also help register people to vote and if you need a ride to the polls this will be the time to sign up! Voters will also learn about the upcoming Constitutional Amendments and will be able to pick up an explainer and sample ballots. As a community, we must collaborate, coordinate, connect, and hold accountable anyone and everyone who wants to represent us! These events are the first step.
