Join us in congratulating Mechanical Engineering graduate student Jiajing Lin! 🎉

Jiajing recently represented our department at the 2026 ASME Fluids Engineering Division Summer Conference—a landmark centennial celebration marking the Division's 100th anniversary.

He presented two technical papers and a poster, and his video on Contraband Bayou Flood Modeling was featured during the awards luncheon!

Way to go, Jiajing! We’re so proud of your hard work and achievements. 👏🌊

Behind every great student experience is a team of professors willing to bring their research out of the lab and into the classroom.✨

We want to give a massive thank you to the incredible faculty who led our 2026 Summer Engineering Research Academy.
A huge thank you to our faculty:

Dr. Zhuang Li – for teaching the students how to code and program VEX robots for the team challenges.

Dr. Zeyad Zeitoun – for introducing them to chemical engineering through hands-on water purification and energy experiments.

Dr. Farid Hosseinpour – for getting everyone into the civil engineering lab to design, mix, and break their own concrete blocks.

Dr. Bei Xie – for showing them the data science side of things, teaching them how to code in Python to analyze real NASA balloon data.

None of this would have been possible without the heavy lifting behind the scenes.

A huge thank you to Dr. Ning Zhang (Department of Engineering and Computer Science) and Amanda Hext (Coordinator of Continuing Education, Institute for Industry-Education Collaboration) for organizing and coordinating the entire program from start to finish.

Thank you all for taking the time out of your summer to inspire these students. We appreciate everything you do for the department!💫💫💫

The McNeese State University Department of Engineering and Computer Science recently had the privilege of hosting the 37th Annual Consortium for Computing Sciences in Colleges (CCSC) South Central Conference right here in Lake Charles.

Held in cooperation with our MSU Student Chapter of the ACM, the conference was a fantastic forum for regional collaboration. It was incredibly inspiring to see educators, industry professionals, and students come together to discuss the future of computing curricula and higher education.✨✨

An event of this scale requires an immense amount of behind-the-scenes work. We are so proud of our faculty and students who stepped up to organize and manage this event. Their dedication highlights our department's commitment to leadership in technology infrastructure and STEM education.

And just like that, the 2026 McNeese Summer Engineering Research Academy has officially come to an end. 🙌

We just finished an incredible Week 2, and the students absolutely crushed it. In the mornings, they got their hands dirty designing, mixing, and strength-testing their own concrete with Dr. Hosseinpour, learning exactly what it takes to build resilient roads and bridges. In the afternoons, they jumped into the digital world with Dr. Xie, working like data scientists to code in Python and analyze real NASA high-altitude balloon data.

Looking back at both weeks, from building VEX robots and exploring chemical engineering in June, to coding and crushing concrete blocks this July—it has been an incredible journey. Seeing these 9th-12th graders step into university labs with so much curiosity, problem-solve through tough challenges, and work together like real researchers has been genuinely inspiring.

A massive thank you to Dr. Li, Dr. Zeitoun, Dr.Hosseinpour, and Dr. Xie for providing such an immersive experience, and to all the parents, mentors, and student assistants who supported the program behind the scenes.✨✨

Most importantly, thank you to our amazing participants! You brought so much energy and talent to campus, and we can't wait to see where your engineering journeys take you next.

Chicago recap! 🏙️⚡

Huge shoutout to David Okpo, Jose Betancourt, and Cunzi Zhao, who spent a busy few days in Illinois representing the McNeese Engineering and Computer Science department!

They attended the 2026 IEEE PES Transmission and Distribution Conference and Exposition—one of the absolute biggest events for the power and energy industry. It was a massive opportunity to learn about the future of modern grid infrastructure and connect with global experts.
The team also stayed busy presenting two of their latest research projects at the graduate poster session:

🔹 A Degradation-Aware Optimization Model for BESS Placement in a 24 Bus System
🔹 Sequence-Aware Battery Degradation Cost Optimization in Microgrid Scheduling via LSTM

Between presenting their work, talking shop with industry professionals, and networking with peers, they did an amazing job showcasing the innovation coming out of our department.
We’re so proud of what this group accomplished out there. Geaux Pokes! 💙💛
