🎶🎃So glad that Music class fell on Halloween! These sweet kiddos all looked super cute in their costumes and Halloween outfits! I’m so grateful that I get to make music with them and their amazing moms, dads, and nanny’s each week! It’s also been so fun to watch them grow each semester! 🎃🎶

At the end of our session today one sweet lady said “My brain sure is tired” and I responded with “Well then, I’ve done my job” 😊 Music Therapy is more than just simply singing or making music together.
It’s creating musical experiences that help keep their minds sharp, their bodies moving, and their spirits joyful!
It’s their creative expressions and joyful social interactions while making music and reminiscing about their lives, creating meaningful relationships between one another.
It’s improving the quality of life of the residents while helping to decrease anxiety and depression.
And lastly, to me specifically, it’s about being present with each resident, in the moment, making sure they know they are loved and cared about.

About Me:
I graduated from Loyola University New Orleans in 2010 with a Bachelors in Music Therapy. Upon completing my degree, I started an internship with M.D. Anderson Cancer Center working with pediatrics, teens, adults, and caregivers. I was also blessed to have been able to work with the Celebration Singers, a choir made up of patients and survivors.
After my internship I began working for Scoggins Therapies and traveled around the Houston area seeing children and adults with special needs in their homes.
In 2012 I moved back to Lake Charles and began working at St. Theodore Holy Family Catholic School in 2013 where I gained more experience with children on the Autism Spectrum.
In 2015 I opened up my private practice Healing Rhapsodies Music Therapy, servicing children and adults in the Lake Charles area.
What is Neurologic Music Therapy?
Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT) is defined as the therapeutic application of music to cognitive, sensory, and motor dysfunctions due to neurologic disease of the human nervous system. NMT is based on a neuroscience model of music perception and production, and the influence of music on function changes in nonmusical brain and behavioral functions.
NMT is recognized by the World Federation of Neurologic Rehabilitation, the European Federation of Neurorehabilitation Societies, and the International Society for Clinical Neuromusicology.
