This past Saturday, Fr. Long and a group of parishioners gathered at SMCS to pray a Rosary around our campus and bury St. Benedict and Miraculous Medals throughout the property. Fr. Long used a special blessing ritual as we united in prayer for our school, our church, and especially for the rebuilding of our gym.
On the Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, we dedicated this space to Christ and asked for the loving intercession of our Blessed Mother as we continue to pray for God's guidance, provision, and blessings upon our community.

Viking Krewe, say hello to Miss Morton!
Hello! My name is Layla Morton, and I am so excited to be joining the St. Margaret community as a fourth grade teacher this year! I am from Lake Charles and graduated from St. Louis Catholic High School and McNeese State University. Outside of school I enjoy traveling, reading, going out for coffee, and spending time with my fiancé, Morgan, along with my family and friends. I'm especially excited to teach at St. Margaret because of the strong faith-filled community and the opportunity to help students grow both academically and spiritually. I can't wait to meet my students and their families and am looking forward to a great year!

Big Ideas Start Here! 💡
While school may be out for summer, the learning and developing never stops! Mrs. Clanton and Mrs. Pourciau attended the Teacher Leader Summit 2026 to gain new ideas, strategies and new resources that will continue to strengthen teaching and learning on our SMCS campus. We can’t wait to see you in August.

SMCS meet Jessie Dupre, our new Director of Religious Education:
Dear St. Margaret's School & Church Community,
It is with sincere joy + enthusiasm that I look forward to becoming a team member as the Director of Religious Education. As natives of Baton Rouge & Houma, my husband Kyle and I are transplants to SWLA. We are incredibly grateful to be raising our four children in such a faith-filled Diocese. St. Margaret's Parish carries an incredible legacy of beautiful liturgical tradition, academic excellence, and such a loving culture of family + community.
As a Mother + Catechist my greatest vocational calling is to nurture the hearts of children; that they may witness the magnitude of Christ's peace, be affirmed in His will for them, and that Our Lord's love may be woven into every aspect of our school environment.
In addition to my role at SMCS, I am deeply invested in cultivating the hearts of Girls. My apostolate ministry, Proverbs 31 Foundation, is a youth ministry specifically for young ladies. Proverbs 31 Foundation is a catechesis in Biblical femininity and virtue development in which the 'feminine genius' is intentionally mentored. Girls ages 5-18 are invited to participate in groups for elementary, middle, and high school. Girls are shepherded in knowing their worth and dignity in Christ Jesus, and are encouraged to know and grow in their vocations as Daughters of Our Lord.
To truly build up the Communion of Saints within the souls of all children is my most profound joy and my life's work. My hope is that I may encourage the hearts of our students and faculty to grow in faith, hope, and love every day. Catholic education is an investment in the heart of a child and it is a gift for life. I am grateful for the opportunity to grow in fellowship as a member of the St. Margaret's community and truly look forward to meeting you all.
+ In Cruce Salus +
(In the Cross is Our Salvation)
Joyfully,
Jessie Gilchrist Dupre
