The SWLA Out of the Darkness Walk for su***de prevention returns to the outdoors! The Walk will be held at the Lake Charles Event Center in 2 weeks! The Walk is a fundraiser for su***de prevention, but it is free to register and attend!

This week, our 7th semester nursing students attended a Mass Casualty/Disaster Seminar.

Mrs. Vincent and Mrs. Wanamaker worked hard to create a day of learning, certification, and hands-on activities! They partnered with Christus St. Patrick’s Hospital and Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.

The morning started with learning about what Mass Casualty care looks like and how to help manage a disaster. This was taught by Mrs. Shayla Reber from SPH.

Next, Mrs. Tracie Kyle with LCMH taught our students about the importance of bleeding management and how we can say more lives in our community. All of our 7th semester students are now certified in Stop the Bleed.

In the afternoon, the students rotated through break out rooms with Mrs. Vincent, Mrs Wanamaker and Mrs Reber. They got to practice decon, experience a field triage escape room and practice secondary triage and intervention.

Last night we held our White Coat Ceremony to recognize the 66 students, including 4 LPN’s who were accepted into clinicals for the Fall 2026 semester.

They have worked so hard to get to this point and with dedication, determination, and great study habits, will become awesome future nurses. 🩺
