"It's not just our fault. You bought the devices, you have to help us navigate the mess you created."

No one handed parents a playbook for raising children in a world of smartphones, social media, and constant connectivity.

We're all learning as we go.

But this reflection is an important reminder that children shouldn't be expected to navigate the digital world alone.

They need guidance. They need boundaries. Most of all, they need us.

"Actually talk to us. We need real conversations about our lives, not just lectures when you're already mad at us."

The most important conversations rarely happen when everything goes according to plan.

They happen in the car. On a walk. While making dinner. Late at night when the house is quiet.

This summer, make space for more conversations and fewer distractions.

"Protect us from ourselves. We are kids. We need you to set restrictions and time limits, even if we complain about them."

Children are still learning balance, self-control, and decision-making.

Sometimes the boundaries they push against are the very ones helping them grow.
This summer, let's remember that healthy limits are one of the many ways we show our children we care.

What would you do if someone came to you for help?

It's a question many of us hope we never have to answer, but one we're all likely to face at some point.

Mental Health First Aid provides practical, evidence-based tools to help you recognize the signs that someone may be struggling, respond with confidence, and connect them with the support they need.

The Lake Bluff Community Wellness Task Force, in partnership with Lake Bluff School District 65, invites teachers, staff, and community members to join this free training next Wednesday, August 19.

One day of learning could make a lasting difference for someone in your life.

"We're scared to tell you when things go wrong. We get threats and see scary videos, but we're afraid of your reaction if we tell you."

Every parent hopes their child will come to them when something goes wrong.
But sometimes the thing keeping children silent isn't what happened. It's how they think we'll react.

In those moments, what they need most isn't punishment.

It's safety. It's support. It's knowing they can come to us without fear.
