Veronica Chin drew upon a teacher's vast knowledge of hat making to create Burning Bush Millinery in 1988. After receiving a BFA/Fashion Design from Washington University/St. Louis and a MS/Textiles, Environment and Design from the University of W

isconsin-Madison and working in the L.A. fashion industry, she has taught beginning and advanced millinery for over thirty years in many Chicago area colleges including Ray Vogue, the Illinois Institute of Art-Chicago and the College of DuPage. Twice a year Veronica ventured to the Amish country of Indiana to teach workshops at JudithM Millinery to milliners from all over the U.S. and Canada. Veronica' conducted Master's class for The Association of Sewing Design Professionals. She has taught hundreds of students throughout her career and many were inspired to become professional milliners themselves. Thirty-two years ago, Veronica sought an outlet for her own artistic energy, and Burning Bush Millinery was born. Her hats are all one-of-a-kind, ranging from the classic to wearable art pieces. "I believe in quality workmanship and materials" Veronica says. "Most of my hats are hand-blocked and hand-sewn. Many of the trims are crafted by myself as well." In addition to producing high-quality millinery, she seeks to delight as well, " I truly enjoy when I see a customer smile and maybe even giggle at my hats." Veronica's designs have been featured on local Chicago TV news(Channel 5 and 7). local newspapers(Chicago Tribune, Sun Times and Pioneer Press) and a host of fashion magazines, such as Women's Wear Daily, Britain's Hat magazine and Victoria Magazine's August and December 2002 issues. Victoria Magazine awarded Veronica's millinery design expertise along with fellow members of the Millinery Arts Alliance as "Women Entrepreneurs of the Year" for 2002. In 2010, Veronica was awarded "Artisan of the Year" by the Lake Forest-Lake Bluff Artisan Guild. In 2016, Veronica gave a lecture: "Crumpets and Crowns: Hats of the Abbey and Downton's Influence on Millinery and Fashion" at The Richard Driehaus Museum, Chicago during their show "Dressing Downton". She also had four trunk shows at the museum. Veronica markets her hats through an ambitious schedule of trunk shows and artist's markets. Sweden has a shopping centre where arriving with unwanted belongings can be just as valuable as leaving with a purchase.

ReTuna opened in 2015 beside a municipal recycling centre. Residents can bring furniture, clothes, toys, books, electronics and household objects to a special collection depot. Staff first separate items that can be used again, then distribute them among the mall’s businesses. Shopkeepers inspect what arrives and choose what they can clean, repair, refinish, redesign or transform before placing it back on a shelf.

The result looks less like a storage warehouse and more like a carefully curated shopping destination. Visitors can browse fashion, computers, sports equipment, furniture, children’s goods, building materials and creative one-off pieces. ReTuna also hosts workshops, events and a year-long course teaching recycled design.

It is often described as a completely second-hand mall, although the official rule is slightly broader: everything sold must be recycled, reused, organically produced or sustainably made. ReTuna is recognised as the world’s first shopping mall dedicated to repaired, recycled and upcycled goods.

Its most powerful achievement is changing the feeling around used objects. Sweden created a place where yesterday’s unwanted item can return tomorrow as something useful, stylish and worth choosing again.
