Night view showing the “Original” Sunset Grill located at 7439 Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, next to the Guitar Center Rock Walk, 1970s. The original Sunset Grill was run by owner Joe Froehlich from 1957 to 1997 when he sold the business. The building was torn down, rebuilt and reopened.

The Westside Pavilion is a former shopping mall located in West Los Angeles. UCLA is repurposing it into the UCLA Research Park. The three-story urban-style shopping mall once had 70 shops but was down to 54 retailers when Hudson Pacific Properties announced plans to convert most of the site to media and technology company offices.

The Westside Pavilion was developed by the Australian Westfield Group. It was designed by The Jerde Partnership, the coordinating architectural firm of the 1984 Olympic Games, with a bold modern design of orange, lavender and green accent colors in geometrical shapes, evoking a Parisian shop-lined street. The mall connected an existing May Company department store at Pico and Overland with a brand new Nordstrom anchor store at Pico and Westwood. It was constructed at a cost of $90 million, and opened on May 31, 1985.

In 1930, through the efforts of activist Christine Sterling, the Plaza-Olvera area was revived with the opening of Paseo de Los Angeles (which later became popularly known by its official street name Olvera Street).

Sterling's vision for a "Mexican Marketplace of Yesterday in the City of Today" opened to the public on Easter Sunday in 1930. Her art and design education from Mills College served to inform her Olvera Street project, as well as her next ethnic re-envisioning, China City. Authenticity has always been tinged with historical fantasy in Los Angeles, and for better or for worse, Sterling's efforts indeed saved the Avila Adobe, and in the process created one of L.A.'s most visited tourist attractions.

The famous Hollywood Palladium opened its doors in September 23, 1940, with a concert by Tommy Dorsey and his Orchestra and the soon-to-be-famous Frank Sinatra. It was producer/promoter Maurice M. Cohen's dream to create the worlds largest dining and dancing palace. In 1961, it became "home" to Lawrence Welk's popular weekly television show. The Palladium has seen numerous movie stars, rock stars, Presidents, and other dignitaries pass through its doors, such as: Rita Hayworth, Tyrone Power, Lana Turner, The Rolling Stones, James Brown, Rod Stewart, Robert Kennedy, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Richard Nixon, and England's Princess Margaret, to name but a few. It has also been the site of many Awards events.

Avalon got permission from the war Department to build a pleasure wharf, constructed and maintained by the Santa Catalina Island Company. In 1914, the Green Pleasure Pier was transferred to the City of Avalon. Today, the 407-foot pier is home to the Catalina Island Chamber of Commerce Visitors Center as well as restaurants, tours and other activities.; The S.S. Catalina, known as "The Great White Steamer," was laid down on December 26, 1923, christened on May 3, 1924, and took its maiden voyage on June 30, 1924. The 301-foot ship, originally built at a cost of $1 million dollars, was in service from 1924 and carried about 25 million passengers between Los Angeles and Avalon Harbor until she was retired on September 14, 1975. The Catalina has been recognized as a Historic-Cultural Monument, #213, and is a California State Historic Landmark. She was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.
