Lairdsville Community Volunteer Fire Department sends our thoughts, prayers, and deepest condolences to our brothers and sisters at Picture Rocks Volunteer Fire Company and the family of Bert Phillips. Bert was truly one of a kind and dedicated to her department and helping the other neighboring departments. Bert was one of a kind and she will be greatly missed by all. Heaven gained a true angel.

It is with profound sadness the membership of Picture Rocks Volunteer Fire Company announce the unexpected death of one of our own. Roberta “Bert” Phillips has dedicated countless hours to the community through the fire company as an EMT, ambulance captain, secretary, and numerous fundraising committees. Bert was always working behind the scenes ordering and preparing food for our fundraisers.

Our hearts go out to Bert’s family and friends during this difficult time.

The members of Lairdsville Volunteer Fire Company would like to express our condolances to the members of the Muncy Area Fire Company and the Girven family on the passing of Captain Greg Girven. There are some shoes that will be difficult to fill, tears of sadness, and memories to share for all that he has done for the community.

It is with deep sadness that we notify the community that Captain Greg Girven has passed on July 2, 2026.

Greg was a 3rd generation Firefighter with 40 years of dedicated service to our community. Greg served as Jr. Firefighter, firefighter, Lieutenant, Captain, Asst. Fire Chief, Trustee, Vice President, and President.

Along with what Greg did for the fire company, he also served as president of AYSO, President of the Muncy Music Association, leader for the Pioneer Valley 4-H club, Vice Chair of the Lycoming County Youth Livestock Committee and probably many more things he didn’t even tell us about.

Greg continued his legacy of serving others even in death, donating his corneas so two individuals may see again.

Please keep the Girven family in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate through this difficult time.
