Educator Preparation Programs (EPPs) are uniquely positioned to prepare future educators with knowledge and training in the science of reading. They can connect this knowledge to practice to support the implementation of evidence-aligned practices through practice-based learning opportunities.

For that reason, The Reading League is offering EPPs the opportunity to work with experts trained to review course syllabi within a program and highlight gaps and redundancies related to evidence-aligned literacy instruction. Using the Rhode Island Department of Education and CEEDAR Science of Reading and Structured Literacy Syllabi Refinement Tool, they will guide conversations while reviewing course content, assignments, and textbooks within a teacher preparation program. They will also offer suggestions and support syllabi enhancement once the review is complete. Opportunities will begin in June 2023 with limited spaces for summer and fall 2023.

Please share this opportunity widely, and learn more here: thereadingleague.org/syllabi-refinement-consultants

Don't miss our upcoming TRL Online Academy Knowledge Block, Understanding Dyslexia, with Dr. Sheila Clonan.

Participants will learn about the role of the brain in reading and dyslexia. Early warning signs, as well as critical indicators and core deficits, will be presented. We will review special education law with an emphasis on specific learning disabilities and dyslexia. A discussion of clinical diagnosis versus educational classification, and IEPs versus 504 Plans, will guide participants to consider these nuances in the contexts of schools.
