Meet one of Hawaii’s coolest reef locals: Whitley’s Boxfish 🌊✨

Found nowhere else on the planet, this endemic treasure takes "dressing to impress" to a whole new level. In fact, males and females look so completely different that scientists originally thought they were two separate species:

The Male: Electric cobalt blue flanks framed by crisp white stripes and a black, white-spotted top. He’s bold, neon, and impossible to miss.

The Female: A gorgeous golden-brown hue covered in delicate white polka dots with a signature bright white horizontal band along her sides.

Beyond their stunning colorways, they’re shaped like little armored cubes with fins, hovering across the reef like tiny underwater UFOs. Because they're exclusive to Hawaiian waters, healthy coral reefs are crucial to keeping these vibrant jewels thriving.

Dive Maui had the absolute honor of serving as an es**rt boat for last Friday’s Maui Channel Swim in which participants swam solo or as a relay team 9.6 miles across the ‘Au’au channel from Lanai to Maui.

Watching the athletes lock in stroke for stroke was nothing short of inspiring.

Massive respect to all swimmers, crew, and everyone on the water who made that crossing possible. It was an unforgettable day in the channel. 🤙🚤

🤩 The Eternal Debate! 🤯 As a rule, we only hit one per trip. Which one would you choose?

Top (photos 2/3): First Cathedrals. The ultimate ‘cathedralesque’ experience. Sunbeams pierce through ceiling holes, creating a stunning 'stained glass' effect. Say your vows at ‘The Altar,’ a massive central rock formation where couples have literally tied the knot! 💒💍🐠

Bottom (photos 4/5): Second Cathedrals. More complex with extensive overhead environments and multiple entrances/exits. The main attraction?
'The Chandelier'—a massive growth of Hawaii's state gem, black coral. Normally found at 100+ meters, you can see it here due to the dark environment. 💎🔦

Have you ever joined our Shark & Turtle dive from the shore?! 🦈🐢

Mala Pier is our home reef, just a short walk from the dive shop. On this specific day, viz was absolutely amazing when we found a family of 5 sharks sleeping in the sand. White tip reef sharks are the best!

Spotted the elusive Banded “Bandit”Angelfish! 🐠✨✨

This is a one of our absolute favorite finds on the reef. Not only is this Hawaiian Endemic Species stunningly beautiful with that striking black band, giving it its name, but it's also special because it's only found here in our islands! A true jewel of Hawai'i's waters.

🌊 Meet the heart behind Dive Maui: Nichlas & CJ ❤️🤿

Their story began halfway around the world in Indonesia, where CJ and Nichlas met while completing their divemaster training. Somewhere between the dives, the adventures, and the underwater magic, they fell in love. 💙

They got married, built a life together, and are now proud parents of two little ones—all while sharing their love for the ocean and the Maui dive community.

From diving together in Indonesia to raising a family and running a dive company here in Maui, their journey is a pretty incredible one. 🌺🐠

So the next time you dive with Dive Maui, know that you’re not just diving with a crew—you’re diving with a family whose love story is deeply connected to the ocean. 🤙🏽

We love close flybys from the Hawaiian Broad Stingray! They can get up to 5 feet across!

Tropical Storm Lala put us through the wringer this weekend. Luckily, all our crew, family and friends are safe and with power! We did not get any damage but we haven’t been able to run tours since last week. Safety and overall enjoyment are our top priorities, but we are at the mercy of Mother Nature!
