It’s Mexican Independence Day today 🇲🇽and ¡OLÉ!’s students Red Apple Academy learned all about it. We made flags, learned about the legend of why there is an eagle eating a snake on the flag and acted out the Grito de Dolores. At midnight on the eve of the holiday, the president goes to his balcony rings a bell and shouts “Viva” two times while the crowds responds “Viva”. The third time he says “Viva, Mexico”. This is followed by the national anthem. Then the celebration begins.

Spanish 1 students Red Apple Academy had a full conversation in Spanish- on Day 1!! First, they learned how to say and ask what their name is, if they are a boy or girl and what their favorite color, fruit and sport are. Then, the class formed two lines and asked their partner the questions. They answered each question in Spanish. The left line rotated after each conversation and they did it again with another partner. So, can you answer the questions they learned today?-
¿Cómo te llamas? ¿Eres niño o niña?
¿Qué color es tu favorito?
¿Qué fruta es tu favorita?
¿Qué deporte es tu favorito?

We had a great first day of K-Grade 2 Spanish Red Apple Academy yesterday! Our students learn Spanish through movement and we got them moving. They jumped, kicked, bear crawled, lunged and more as they heard new Spanish words. I am so excited for another great year at Red Apple.
