Our Accelerated US History students recently took a creative trip back in time with the Colonial Regions Happy Meal Project!
Working in teams, students designed their own Colonial Happy Meal Boxes representing the Chesapeake, New England, Middle, or Southern Colonies. But thereโs much more to this project than creativity and colorful designs!
๐ Students became historians as they investigated:
๐ How geography shaped colonial life
๐ฐ How economies developed
๐ฉโ๐พ How labor systems changed
๐๏ธ How colonial governments worked
๐ค Relationships between colonists and Native peoples
โช Religion, culture, and immigration
๐ค Important people who shaped colonial development
Most importantly, students used historical evidence to make an argument about WHY the colonies developed differently.
This hands-on project gave students the opportunity to research, collaborate, think critically, and communicate historical ideas in a creative wayโall while strengthening the skills they need for success in AP U.S. History, which they will take next semester. ๐บ๐ธ
๐ Who knew learning history could come with a Happy Meal? ๐๐
Special thanks to Ms. Jennifer Crowder for providing us with the Happy Meal boxes!
