For Gentry Pickett Wools, Carencro High School provided the foundation for a career centered on education, leadership, and lifelong learning.
As a member of FFA and several judging teams, Gentry found opportunities to grow both inside and outside the classroom. She credits Danielle Jones as one of the most influential people in her high school journey, serving as a mentor who encouraged and supported her well beyond the classroom.
Today, Gentry serves as a Director of Education and Development and is a Registered Nurse (RN), combining her passion for healthcare and education to help others learn, grow, and succeed.
One of her favorite memories at Carencro was the excitement and community spirit surrounding Friday night football games, where classmates and families came together to support the Bears.
Her advice to today’s students is simple but powerful:
“Never stop learning!”
When asked to finish the sentence, “Carencro built me by…” Gentry answered:
“Building me into the person I am today.”
ONE STANDARD. ONE CULTURE. ONE CARENCRO.

Another 4-H and FFA Alumni featured on Carencro Built Me!!
💛🐻💙🍀
From the barns of FFA to serving and protecting the Carencro community, David Anderson has spent his life leading with purpose, determination, and a commitment to those around him.
A member of the Class of 1986, David was actively involved in FFA and 4-H, where he learned lessons that would shape both his career and his character. Today, he proudly serves as the Chief of Police for the City of Carencro, continuing a lifetime of service to the community he calls home.
One of the people who made the greatest impact on David was his agriculture teacher, Mr. Ted Ardoin. More than a teacher, Mr. Ardoin was a mentor who prepared his students for life’s challenges, teaching them that difficult days are inevitable—but perseverance and character will carry you through.
Some of David’s favorite memories are the countless hours spent showing livestock and making lifelong friendships through FFA. Those experiences taught him that Carencro has always been more than a school—it has always been a family.
His advice to today’s students is to make the most of every opportunity. Get involved, leave your mark, and help shape your school and community into something even better for the next generation.
When asked to finish the sentence, “Carencro Built Me…”, David shared:
“By never accepting the minimum, setting goals without limits, and never giving up. Your rewards may not come immediately, but if you stay committed and believe in yourself, you’ll achieve more than you ever imagined.”
David’s story is a reminder that the values learned at Carencro don’t end at graduation. They become the foundation for a life of leadership, service, and making a difference in the community you love.
One Standard. One Culture. One Carencro.

Sometimes the greatest gift a school can give a student isn’t found in a classroom—it’s helping them realize they belong. For Chad P. Sonnier, Carencro High became that place.
A proud member of the Class of 1989, Chad competed for the Bears in both baseball and football before dedicating his career to public service. Today, he serves with the Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office, protecting communities across Louisiana with the same commitment and integrity that began taking shape during his years at Carencro.
One of the people who left the greatest mark on Chad was Mr. Boone, his agriculture teacher. More than an educator, Mr. Boone became a trusted mentor—someone who listened without judgment, offered honest advice, and demonstrated what true leadership and compassion looked like. His influence remains with Chad to this day.
Although Chad arrived at Carencro from nearby Scott knowing only a handful of people, those feelings of being an outsider quickly disappeared. Within the first week or two, he found friendships that have lasted a lifetime, proving that Carencro wasn’t just a school—it was a family.
His message to today’s students is one every Bear can carry forward:
“Be kind to everyone you meet. The friendships you build in high school can become some of the most meaningful relationships of your life. Surround yourself with people who will stand beside you through both the good times and the difficult ones.”
When asked to finish the sentence, “Carencro Built Me…”, Chad shared a lesson that has guided him throughout his life:
”…by teaching me to never quit or give up. Every setback is an opportunity to learn and grow. Always give 110% of yourself—even when you think no one is watching, because someone always is. The rewards may not come immediately, but if you stay committed, they’ll often exceed anything you imagined.”
Chad’s journey reminds us that the lessons learned at Carencro go far beyond academics and athletics. They shape character, build resilience, and prepare students to serve others with integrity long after graduation.
One Standard. One Culture. One Carencro.
