Irena Eide (Rainy Eyes) will be leading this ladies country guitar class and teach a repertoire of classic country numbers with simple chord progressions (if your 90 year old grandma can play it, so can you!), country strumming patterns and bass runs so you can lead the family country sing-along at the Christmas party this year.

Friends, the San Francisco Folk Collective class schedule is up for spring! Our session for group classes runs from May 7th - July 6th, and we're offering classes for both kids (and homeschoolers!) and adults. All of our classes will be offered at the Little Folkies studio in Noe Valley.

Just some of our classes offered for adults is a Stringband Jam and Songwriting for Adults. We also offer a Young Fiddlers class early on Tuesday afternoons for our homeschool kids! On Saturdays, check out our Stringband Jam for 11-16 year olds.

kids groups We offer daytime, evening, and and weekend group classes to students ages 6 to 15 on fiddle, guitar, ukulele, and a string band jam. Our spring 2018 session runs 9-weeks long from May 7th - July 6th, and ends with a showcase for friends and family at our monthly Bluegrass BBQ's.

We are really excited to offer a special Canadian Fiddle Tune workshop with the masters, Charlie Walden Music / Patt & Possum, coming up on May 11th! Students will have the opportunity to dive into Canadian fiddle songs, learned after many years of exploring fiddle traditions in Ontario, Quebec, and New Brunswick.

We'll be offering the workshop at our Little Folkies studio in Noe Valley, but space is limited and we'll be accepting registrations on a first come, first serve basis. The workshop will be held on Friday, May 11th, from 6:30-8:30 P.M. You don't want to miss this!

We're excited to host this Ladies Songwriters Salon at San Francisco Folk Collective in SF next Friday with some of the bay areas most creative songwriters. You're welcome to stop by! We'll be sharing new songs, stories and good company. Feel free to bring some food or drinks. The event is free but we do accept donations for the participating ladies. Adult Beginner Folk Guitar

Learn to play guitar and sing your favorite folk tunes. Students learn the basic chords and chord progression in the common keys along with basic rhythm pattern and bass runs while singing and playing familiar and unique folk songs, starting with old traditional and country/ bluegrass tunes by Carter Family, Bill Monroe or Hank Williams, and moving into learning slightly more complicated songs by artists like Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, the Beatles and more. Students will also get vocal guidance, learning techniques and vocal warm ups.

Buying a guitar? Look for a used acoustic on craigslist and ebay, Russo Music or at Haight music in Haight Ashbury.

Adult Americana/Folk Jam Class

This class is for students who know most of the basic chords and can keep time on their instrument. We'll be mostly jamming through a variety of songs from the canon of Americana and folk music with tunes by Woody Guthrie, The Carter Family, Bob Dylan, The Band, Joni Mitchell, Staples Family and more. Along the way we'll learn new chords and rhythms and work on melody and phrasing. There will be opportunities for singing solo and learning harmonies to certain songs. We encourage folks to get together and jam around the kitchen table and deepen their community and music experiences, and our hope is that this class inspires many good times making music with friends for the students in the years to come.

Kids Beginner Folk Guitar

This class is for kids ages 6 and up. The young students learn the basic chords and chord progression in the common keys along with basic rhythm pattern and bass runs while singing and playing familiar folk tunes like 'Froggy went a courting', 'Oh Suzannah', 'This little light of mine' and more. Students will also get vocal guidance, learning techniques and vocal warm ups.
The goal is to help them connect to their musical heritage and deepen their bond to their rich American music cultures and it's history.
Buying a guitar for the little one? We recommend getting a half size or quarter size nylon string acoustic guitar, lots of great used ones on craigslist and ebay.)
