Do you fish in the Valley Creek watershed? We want to hear from you!

Anglers are invited to join us on October 29 at the Bessemer Recreation Center for a community workshop as part of an EPA-funded project led by Auburn University.

We're working with anglers and local communities to better understand aquatic litter challenges and identify strategies to help keep our waterways clean and healthy. Whether you fish occasionally or spend every chance you get on the water, your experiences and perspectives can help inform future solutions and outreach efforts.

Hands in the dirt. Fresh food on the table. Skills that last beyond the growing season.

During Farm to School Month and National 4-H Week, we’re highlighting how Alabama 4-H Grows helps young people connect with their food through hands-on gardening.

With projects for different ages and experience levels, participants can grow vegetables in containers or garden beds, keep gardening and harvest records, explore a produce business or grow food to donate to their community.

These experiences reinforce Farm to School learning by connecting how food is grown with fresh foods at mealtime—all while helping youth practice responsibility and give back.

As we continue with 4-H week, staff members Rachel Snoddy and Katie Hill participated in Independent Life Skills with Lafayette and Chambers High. Students rotate through stations and learn about various topics such as finances, interview skills, voting, and car maintenance. Thank you to the many partners and volunteers who make this program successful!🍀
