Still celebrating a wonderful night!

Our College of Nursing & Health Sciences Scholarship Celebration brought together our incredible students and the generous donors who believe in their futures.

And there was so much to celebrate! For the 2026–2027 academic year, the College awarded $452,701 in scholarships to 135 undergraduate and graduate students, made possible through the generosity of 73 donors and the Lettie Pate Whitehead Foundation. We also celebrated the addition of two new scholarships, with another graduate scholarship beginning next year.

Behind every one of those numbers is a student, a donor, and a story of generosity and impact.

We are incredibly grateful to those who invest in our students and proud of the future nurses and healthcare professionals who will carry that generosity forward into the communities they serve.

Congratulations to Marissa Lajaunie on her appointment to the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) Council for Excellence in Education (CEE)!

This national appointment recognizes Marissa’s expertise, leadership, and dedication to advancing health information management education. Through her work with the CEE, she will help shape academic standards and prepare the next generation of HIM professionals.

Last night, we celebrated our Health Information Management (HIM) seniors at the annual Black Coat Ceremony! This special ceremony marks the beginning of their Professional Practice Experience (PPE) and another important step toward graduation in May 2027. Congratulations to all of our HIM seniors as you begin this exciting next chapter of your education and professional journey!

A special thank you to the Health Information Management Society (HIMS) officers for coordinating and planning such a wonderful event. Your hard work helped make the evening so special! ❤️🤟

Our sincerest appreciation to Dolores Bess for her generosity and commitment to our program.

For 25 years, Dolores Bess dedicated herself to shaping the next generation of nurses in the UL Lafayette College of Nursing & Health Sciences.

In 2012, she and her husband, William, established the Dolores C. Bess Endowed Scholarship in Nursing to support upper-level students. When Dolores passed in 2024, she left a significant gift in her will to the scholarship, further expanding her impact on the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s nursing students.

The scholarship now provides nearly full tuition support to a small group of students during their final four semesters. These students, designated as Dolores Bess Scholars, will receive this meaningful financial relief during a time when clinical rotations demand long hours and leave little room for part-time work.

This fall, the inaugural Dolores Bess Scholars were named. As Maria Moya and Alyssa Theriot continue their nursing education, they carry Dolores’ legacy, one rooted in compassion, education and commitment to the nursing profession.

Big news for rural health care in Louisiana!

The Louisiana Department of Health has awarded UL Lafayette nearly $2.1 million to improve health care in rural communities, including nearly $1.6 million for the College of Nursing & Health Sciences.

Big congratulations to our alumna, Elise Lambert, Ph.D.!

Texas State University’s Elise Lambert, a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Health Informatics and Information Management, has been selected as a 2026–2027 Fulbright U.S. Scholar to France!

The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program is one of academia’s most prestigious fellowship opportunities, supporting faculty and researchers as they teach, conduct research and build international collaborations.

A proud 2014 graduate of our Health Information Management program, Elise was also honored as a Diamond Alumni at our 75th Diamond Soiree.
