It's not too late to grow tomatoes as long as you select a "heat set" variety. These cultivars have been bred to set fruit during high nighttime temperatures. If managed correctly, heat-set tomatoes can produce fruit through October. Preferred varieties include Florida 91, Solar set, Sun Master, Phoenix and others.

LGC held its annual May Social at the beautiful home and garden of member, Mary Beyt. The Women of the Year was awarded to Noreen Bienvenu, the Member of the Year to Debbie Kremheller, and special recognition was given to Denise Lanclos for all that she did for LGC this year. Congratulations to the award winners for their outstanding work for the club. Members provide sweet and savoy foods for lunch. It is always a treat to try the many different dishes. President Becky Lege recapped the works of the club this past year. Pictures of members and/or their spouses who passed away this year were displayed on the memorial table. All toured Mary's amazing garden. It is truly a showcase.
