This morning, our community reached another milestone in building the future of LJ Alleman Fine Arts Magnet Academy. Students, faculty, staff, families, community members, and project partners gathered for the school's topping out ceremony, where the final structural beam was signed before being placed atop the new campus. It is a tradition that celebrates progress while honoring everyone helping bring this vision to life.

Joining the celebration were Board President Hannah Smith Mason, Board Member David LeJeune, Superintendent Francis Touchet Jr., district leadership, Principal Allison Champagne, and representatives of JB Mouton, LLC and Prouet Architecture & Engineering, whose partnership has helped make this moment possible. Today's celebration reminds us that every new school begins with a shared vision for our students' future.

Their words say it best. Earlier, we heard from our high school students. Now, our middle school students are sharing what their English teachers have meant to them and the difference those relationships make. Their responses became part of this year’s teacher in-service, giving our educators the opportunity to hear directly from the students at the heart of their work.

Great teaching builds more than knowledge. It builds confidence, connection, and a culture where students can grow.

Connecting with families starts before students ever step into the classroom. A few days ago, the faculty and staff at Lafayette Elementary School took learning beyond the school walls with a neighborhood Bus Parade, bringing excitement, encouragement, and a warm welcome directly to the communities they serve.

Lafayette Elementary is one of many LPSS schools reaching out to families before the school year begins because meaningful relationships don't start on the first day of class. They begin with moments like these that build trust, strengthen community, and remind every child that they belong before they even arrive on campus.

Happening now: The LJ Alleman Fine Arts Magnet Academy Academy Rockin’ Trojan cover band is setting the tone as students, staff, district leaders, and community partners gather for the start of today’s L.J. Alleman topping out ceremony.

A major milestone for a campus built for the future. More to come!

Today, Lafayette Parish School System proudly celebrated the completion of the construction and grounds improvements at Lafayette High School with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The celebration brought together School Board President Hannah Smith Mason, Board Members David LeJeune and Roddy Bergeron, former Board President Justin Centanni, former Lafayette High principals Dr. Patrick Leonard and Dr. Rachel Brown, former principal and current Chief of High Schools Julia Williams, Superintendent Francis Touchet Jr., district leadership, representatives from LEMOINE, and current Lafayette High faculty and staff. Together, they celebrated a milestone made possible through years of vision, collaboration, and a shared commitment to Lafayette High School and its students.

These improvements reflect LPSS's continued commitment to investing in the future of our students by creating campuses that support learning, opportunity, and pride.
