Our ELA team dove deep into the Science of Reading, explored powerful strategies within LEXIA, and collaborated on actionable scaffolds and supports to help our struggling readers thrive.

We were also honored to welcome a very special guest: Carla Trahan Etienne, Ed.D., Director of Literacy Coaching with the Louisiana Department of Education! Thank you, Dr. Etienne, for joining us and supporting our educators.

Welcome back y’all! 🌟 We are thrilled to welcome our students, parents, and teachers back to campus! 🎒 Our LPSS ELA classrooms are buzzing again, and there is nothing quite like the energy of our young readers turning fresh pages and stepping into a new year of learning together. 📖🌟 From mastering foundational phonics in Kindergarten to exploring rich literature and craft in 5th Grade, we are eager to watch our students grow as confident, creative readers and writers.

Today, our K-5 ELA team had the amazing opportunity to present at the New Teacher Summit held at David Thibodeaux STEM Magnet Academy! We loved sharing Multisensory Strategies in the ELA Classroom and getting to connect with so many passionate new educators joining Lafayette Parish.

To top it all off, one lucky new teacher walked away with an IMSE blending board as a door prize! 🎁✨

We had a fantastic morning at Prairie Elementary connecting with our new elementary educators in Lafayette Parish! Today’s orientation was packed with learning, collaboration, and inspiration.

Together, we dove into:
📚 The Science of Reading and evidence-based literacy instruction
📖 Navigating the CKLA curriculum to build strong, knowledgeable readers
🛠️ Unpacking essential classroom resources for the year ahead
🎁 ...and, of course, handing out some fun door prizes!

Please take a moment to congratulate our incredible cohort of LPSS teachers who completed LETRS Units 5-8 Training this week! 📚✨ The reason for our district’s outstanding literacy performance is due to dedication like this!

Between our Prairie and District Office locations, these incredible educators from schools all over our parish put in some long days of hard work. Their engagement, energy, and participation were absolutely phenomenal!

We also got to celebrate one of our amazing presenters' birthdays in true Lafayette style—showering her with local hospitality and goodies! 🎂🎁

We are absolutely thrilled to introduce and welcome our brand-new K-5 ELA Instructional Coach, Paige Gossen! 📚✨

We are flooding your feed with photos because we couldn’t be more excited to have her join the team. She brings an incredible wealth of experience, a deep passion for literacy, and strong roots right here in our community. ⚜️❤️

Here is a little glimpse into her amazing journey:
🔘 Proud Ragin' Cajun: She graduated in Elementary Education from ULL in May of 2014! 🤟❤️

🔘12 Years of Classroom Excellence: She has spent over a decade dedicating her talents to LPSS students, including 4 years at S.J. Montgomery, 5 years at Middlebrook, and the past 3 years at J. Wallace James. 🎒🍎

🔘 Shaping Future Educators: For the last 6 years, she has served as a mentor teacher for ULL, hosting and guiding undergraduates working hard to earn their teaching certifications. 👩‍🏫✨

🔘A Special Connection: Fun fact—she has actually taught all of our ELA department’s own kiddos how to read in the 1st grade! 📖❤️

Not only is she stepping into this exciting new professional role, but she and her husband, Sean, are also expecting their very first child this fall! 🍼🍂

📚 Looking Ahead: Preparing for the New K-5 ELA Standards! ✨

Our ELA team spent the morning in Lake Charles diving deep into the new K-5 ELA Standards being rolled out by the Louisiana Department of Education for the 2027–2028 school year! 🚀 We attended the LDOE Standards Institute in Calcasieu to unpack the upcoming shifts, collaborate with fellow educators, and start building a roadmap for a seamless transition.

We are already hard at work translating today's insights, anchor charts, and collaborative strategies into actionable resources for our incredible teachers. Stay tuned for upcoming PLC deep-dives as we work together to support every classroom and celebrate our continuous literacy growth! 🌟
