Welcome back yβall! π We are thrilled to welcome our students, parents, and teachers back to campus! π Our LPSS ELA classrooms are buzzing again, and there is nothing quite like the energy of our young readers turning fresh pages and stepping into a new year of learning together. ππ From mastering foundational phonics in Kindergarten to exploring rich literature and craft in 5th Grade, we are eager to watch our students grow as confident, creative readers and writers.

Today, our K-5 ELA team had the amazing opportunity to present at the New Teacher Summit held at David Thibodeaux STEM Magnet Academy! We loved sharing Multisensory Strategies in the ELA Classroom and getting to connect with so many passionate new educators joining Lafayette Parish.
To top it all off, one lucky new teacher walked away with an IMSE blending board as a door prize! πβ¨

π12 Years of Classroom Excellence: She has spent over a decade dedicating her talents to LPSS students, including 4 years at S.J. Montgomery, 5 years at Middlebrook, and the past 3 years at J. Wallace James. ππ
π Shaping Future Educators: For the last 6 years, she has served as a mentor teacher for ULL, hosting and guiding undergraduates working hard to earn their teaching certifications. π©βπ«β¨

π Looking Ahead: Preparing for the New K-5 ELA Standards! β¨
Our ELA team spent the morning in Lake Charles diving deep into the new K-5 ELA Standards being rolled out by the Louisiana Department of Education for the 2027β2028 school year! π We attended the LDOE Standards Institute in Calcasieu to unpack the upcoming shifts, collaborate with fellow educators, and start building a roadmap for a seamless transition.
We are already hard at work translating today's insights, anchor charts, and collaborative strategies into actionable resources for our incredible teachers. Stay tuned for upcoming PLC deep-dives as we work together to support every classroom and celebrate our continuous literacy growth! π
