“Erroneous Voter Registrations in Lamorinda - Notice from City of Lafayette, CA

Post Date: 05/02/2018 6:40 PM

The City received this information from the County Division of Elections on May 2nd:

A number of voters in Lamorinda reported recently receiving voter information addressed to people who have never lived at that address. This is similar to reports we received in 2016 which included ballots as well as voter information.
In 2016, the Elections Division identified a source of many of these erroneous registration forms and has been working with law enforcement on the issue. The errant registrations were corrected as they were reported to us. The currently reported instances had 2016 registration dates as well.

It is now apparent in 2018 that there are many more cases of this than what our investigation turned up in 2016.

Voters who receive materials addressed to an unknown person at their address should note the name of the person and then destroy the voting material. They should also report the incident, including the name(s) of the unknown person(s) and the address to which the material was sent, to the Elections Division at [email protected] or by calling 925.335.7800.

If incidents are not reported, material will continue to be sent to these erroneous voters.

Citizens should have confidence that we have processes and protocols in place which would detect and prevent any tampering with the results of the upcoming election resulting from these registrations.”
