As we build for the future, we are making sure our faith remains at the foundation.

In the Catholic tradition, blessed religious items are treated with reverence even when they can no longer be used. Rather than simply being discarded, they are respectfully burned or buried.

With construction underway on our new Innovative Learning Center, we had a special opportunity to honor this tradition by burying several blessed items that had faithfully served our school and parish community over the years.

There is something especially meaningful about placing these sacred items into the ground where something new is being built. It is a beautiful reminder that everything we do at SPES is rooted in our Catholic faith.

May the Innovative Learning Center be a place where generations of students learn, grow, discover their gifts, and above all, grow closer to Christ.

Faith is truly at the foundation of all we do.

Blessing of the Helmets is always a wonderful event to ask God for His protection over our football players. Our SPES football team gathered with players from other Catholic schools to pray the rosary and have their helmets blessed. We are so thankful for STM hosting this event every year to kick off the football season!

Today our SPES students, faculty and staff gathered for our annual Blessing of the Backpacks! 🎒

We learned about our theme for the year: “Faith Grows Here: Centered in Christ. Growing in Faith. Serving in Love.” and how we can share our faith with others. Our 8th graders led us in a song created to help our students remember Matthew 17:20, the verse that goes along with our year of Faith.

Fr. David Hebert blessed the backpacks of our students and bags of our teachers and staff and prayed for a fruitful school year.

We are so excited to journey with our students through this year and look forward to watching them share their faith with others!

🎉Welcome back! 🎉

We were so excited to see so many smiling faces this morning as half of our students returned to school, and we can’t wait to see the rest of our Cougars tomorrow! We are looking forward to a wonderful school year as we grow in faith with our SPES family!

As the countdown to the first day of school continues, our faculty and staff have been hard at work preparing to welcome our students back to campus!

Over the summer, our team has gathered for meaningful opportunities to learn, grow, pray, and serve. To start the summer, we participated in a Lumen Retreat as part of our accreditation process. This past week, we came together for our annual Back-to-School in-service to plan and prepare for the exciting year ahead.

We ended the week with our annual Faculty & Staff Retreat, which was a beautiful opportunity to renew our hearts as we prepare for the school year. We began the day with Mass, followed by Adoration led by Sr. Mary Magdalene McDavid. She then challenged us to embrace this year's virtue of Faith, drawing inspiration from "The Forgotten Way" by Matthew Kelly, the book our faculty and staff read together this summer.

We then put our faith into action by partnering with Catholic Charities of Acadiana to serve our community in a variety of ways. Faculty and staff volunteered at St. Joseph's Diner, spent time playing games with residents at St. Joseph Shelter, wrote thank-you notes at the Sigur Center, sorted food and assembled supplemental food bags at FoodNet Food Bank, and assembled tarp kits and helped clean at Rebuilding Together Acadiana and the Disaster Response Warehouse.

As we begin this new school year, we are reminded that education at SPES extends beyond the classroom. We strive to be Centered in Christ, Growing in Faith, and Serving in Love, and we can't wait to share that mission with our students and families.

We are ready for an incredible year and are excited to see our families soon!

Please join us in praying for our middle school students and several of our teachers and parents as they spend this week at Hidden Lake, a Life Teen Catholic camp in Dahlonega, Georgia!

For over 20 years, Life Teen camps have welcomed thousands of young people from across the country. This week, our students, who are part of our parish youth ministry, Edge, are joining hundreds of other middle school students for an incredible opportunity to grow in their Catholic faith, deepen their relationship with Jesus and His Church, and build meaningful community.

Do you have gently used portable playground equipment that's no longer being used? We'd love to give it a new home! We appreciate all donations as we create a fun outdoor play space for our PreK 3 and 4 students while we build the new Innovative Learning Center!
