A new school year means new Mystery Readers for TK!

On days when there is a Mystery Reader, TK students sit down to lunch to ponder a set of three clues up on the board. After guessing who it might be, the mystery guest (a parent, grandparent, or other family member) enters the classroom, bringing books from home to read to the class.

You can read all about this sweet tradition on our blog.

It’s a new year, which means new Mystery Readers for TK! On days where there is a Mystery Reader in TK, students sit down to lunch to ponder a set of three clues up on the board. These clues are along the lines of, “I have travelled to the Amazon Rainforest,” “Our family is expecting a baby,...

After four weeks of rehearsals, our Drama Camp students are taking the stage in W***y Wonka Jr. this week! These talented students, entering grades three through six, are performing an incredible eight shows.

We are so proud of their hard work, courage, and positive attitudes throughout the entire process. They have supported one another and brought so much energy and heart to the production. Bravo to the whole cast, the interns, and staff! 🎭🍫

Our incredible Drama Camp interns, all Meher Schools alumni in middle and high school, served a special breakfast yesterday for our Drama Camp students, as the actors finish up tech week and prepare for next week's performances. The interns are a key part of the Drama Camp's success. They help the students with their acting, supervise a range of activities, and help with costumes, props, and set pieces. They've even found some creative ways to help the campers practice their social and emotional skills!

Drama Campers played Capture the Flag today with a special colorful twist! Campers have been working hard on their W***y Wonka production but there’s still time for games! And coding. And cooking. And arts and crafts. And cartooning. And writing. And water play. And improv… ok they do a lot!

In her final blog post of the school year, preschool director Susie Kohl brings her focus to our school's gardens. "Gardens invite us to become aware of the invisible communication networks between plants and insects and understand that we are a part, not the center, of a vibrating universe," says Susie. You can read the rest of her post here.

If our school gardens could talk, they would tell us about one of their important roles: offering the gift of soft focus to everyone who walks over their craggy surfaces. Through the decades, they may have changed form and shape, but our gardens have always been sources of crucial nurturance and res...

Have you ever played board games with your book club? After gathering in five small groups for ten weeks to read and discuss their chosen book, our fifth graders collaborated on making boardgames to be enjoyed by the other book clubs in the class.

The boardgames were wonderfully creative, complete with game pieces and rules. The Little Bog on the Prairie boardgame featured an epic trek through the wilderness while The Dark Is Rising boardgame resembled monopoly but featured a lot more property destruction rather than acquisition. Most importantly, everyone had a lot of fun engaging in a brand new way with the books they had read.

We often try to articulate the qualities individual students have developed over the school year, but it can be hard to choose words that have meaning for the child.

Room 8 teacher Chloe Gilmore purchased eight face-sized mirrors and placed them at different heights around the school to give students a glimpse of the people they are becoming. Each mirror is surrounded by a sentence: “This person is kind,” or, “This person is a good friend,” inviting children of all ages to try on a positive description of themselves.

You can read all about it in our blog.

“You’ve grown up so much!” we tell children at this time of year. As the school year concludes, we wish we could find words to let them know how amazing their growth has been. No matter what their age, they are in many ways different people than they were when they entered the classroom last f...
