Happy Fun Fact Friday!
This week, some of the best swimmers in the world are gathering in Irvine, California, for the 2026 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships! But what exactly are Pan Pacs? The Pan Pacific Swimming Championships, commonly known as Pan Pacs, were created in 1985 as a major international swimming competition. The idea was to give countries around the Pacific a major championship opportunity similar to the European Championships, which had long provided European swimmers with their own major LCM continental competition. Pan Pacs also gives swimmers a chance to race top-tier international competition in years without the Olympics or the World Aquatics LCM Championships. The first Pan Pacs were held in Tokyo, Japan, with the four original charter nations being Australia, Canada, Japan, and the United States. Over the years, other non-European countries have also been invited to compete, including Brazil, South Africa, China, and others. Today, Pan Pacs is one of the biggest meets on the international swimming calendar, bringing together elite swimmers from around the world.

This week is COLA’s Stroke Clinic! Here is an important message to remember from Australian swimmer Kieran “Super Fish” Perkins.
“Being your best is not so much about overcoming the barriers other people place in front of you as it is about overcoming the barriers we place in front of ourselves.” 🏆
Fun fact: Kieran is the first person in history to hold the Olympic, World, Commonwealth and Pan Pacific titles simultaneously!
