We salute the LHS Class of 1999 for hosting a successful homecoming! We believe that when people look in the dictionary to define the words “Takeover” & “Beautiful” it should say LaFayette High Alumni! We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves from beginning to end. The love expressed and experienced is unexplainable and unmatched! From our hearts to yours, we love our black and gold!

Shoutout to JerseyLand LLC for their superb customer service and our jerseys!

Today, we celebrated the beautiful life of our friend & classmate Kawana McFarlin Tucker. It was an absolutely beautiful celebration of life! We supported her family in good old ‘01 fashion! The bond we share is truly inexplainable. There’s truly no one like ‘01!

Special thanks to Kimberly Davis of BJ’s arrangements for the beautiful flower and thanks to Takeshia Hudson for our beautiful ribbon! Special thanks also extended to Pastor E. Tramaine Solomon for covering us in prayer! We hope we made you proud Kawana! You brought everyone together today girl and your life has taught us how to not be left behind!

This poem written by our classmate Kadesha Russell sums up our feelings for Kawana!

Our time here together has come to an end, we are honored and privileged to call you our friend!
You started a movement, a legacy in such a short time!
We are forever screaming “NO GIRL LEFT BEHIND”!
Your love and support was genuine and true!
Your humble spirit always brightened the mood!
Although we weren’t ready, it still seems too soon!
We all feel relief knowing in Heaven we have an Angel like you!

We love you Kawana
In our eyes, you’ve truly WON
Your work down here is complete
Thank you for loving LHS Class of 2001!

Last year, in October, we celebrated our 20 year class reunion. Worshipping with Kawana and her husband Pastor Tucker was highly recommended by several classmates because they’ve always been there to pray for us and with us whenever needed. In fact, when our classmate, Mexico, transitioned, Pastor Tucker covered us in prayer & provided encouraging words to us right before the funeral. So our class President reached out to Kawana to get the specific worship times, address, etc. for BCI. Kawana responded, “listen Mate we would LOVE to have ‘01 worship with us. Service last about an hour but it really depends on the spirit. We will NOT rush the spirit, We won’t be mad if anyone leaves, and I’ll tell Pastor to try to be quick…lol”. She had no problem loving us, welcoming us with open arms, and keeping it real with us! We had a great time worshiping with her, Pastor Tucker, and the BCI family that Sunday! We can only imagine the void they felt today without her physical presence. Pastor Tucker, BCI, and all of us who love her remain in our thoughts and prayers!

We, the LHS Class of 2001, have a bond that even we can’t explain at times. We connect with each other in the most unique ways and we truly love each other!

This picture is a depiction of just that, a unique connection. Mexico & Treece is what they were affectionately known as. They were birthday twins. They both experienced a heavy amount of grief from immediate family at such a young age yet they had a way of lighting up a room! Their conversations were deep yet genuine. Their transparency touched and transformed so many lives! Their laughter exuded JOY! And their hearts were always filled with so much LOVE. We think they know they made a difference but we aren’t sure if they truly understood the impact of the positive difference they made in our class, in our school, in our city, in our county, and in the world!!! 6 years ago, Mexico shocked the world and went home to live with Jesus! Here we are again in a total state of shock 6 years later that Kawana has went home to live with Jesus!

We can only imagine the conversations they are having in Heaven right now… we are positive it was a grand reunion!! We miss them dearly! Our alumni picnics haven’t been the same since Mexico left us and they will be even more different now without Kawana’s physical presence. We were blessed with some of the best classmates ever!

We remember your jokes, we remember your laugh, we remember your smile, we remember your no nonsense demeanor, we remember your “keep it real” attitude, and most importantly we remember your love for us, your prayers with us, and your support towards us! You were truly one of a kind! Our hearts are broken, yet we rejoice and praise God that we were blessed to have a classmate as special as you! We remember you as fun-loving, dependable, and willing to help whoever, however! We remember you as our classmate and our friend. Thank you for impacting our lives in such a way that you will always hold a place in our hearts. Thank you for shining your light and literally changing the world! Thank you for just being you. We love you and we will always remember you!

Our thoughts and prayers are with the McFarlin/Tucker family as we mourn & celebrate the life of our dear classmate, Mrs. Kawana Latrice Mcfarlin Tucker. She is already missed! Gone but certainly never forgotten...
