This is (Still) NOT a Flight School Commercial

You watched the first one. You questioned your life choices.
And somehow… you’re back.

This is Episode 2 of whatever this is. Still no script. Still no real reason.
Just flight training, dry humor, and a checklist that might be blank.

Owens Flight Training: Learn to fly. Or just watch us pretend we know how commercials work.

If your soft field landings feel like a car crash in slow motion… we need to talk.

In this brutally honest breakdown, we cover soft field takeoffs and landings the way your CFI wishes they could say it. From helicopter-style liftoffs to pillow-soft touchdowns, this video will teach you how to fly like a pro—without chewing up the runway.

✅ Proper back pressure
✅ Ground effect magic
✅ Power management for that feather landing
✅ Why dragging your tail and slamming your nose wheel is a no-go
✅ Real talk on combining soft and short field techniques

Skip the bounce. Hold it off. Respect the turf.
If your nose wheel touches first… we fight.

Congrats to Greg Trahan on passing his PPL check ride! He’s worked hard to get this done even with having a full time job that’s keeps him away for weeks at a time. He pushed through and got it done. Don’t take too long to come back and finish up IFR, Owens enjoys having you and the wife around! ✈️🎉

Sit down, zip it, and let’s talk about one of the most butchered checklists in student pilot history: GUMPS. Whether you’re mumbling through it or skipping it completely, this pre-landing flow is the difference between a smooth touchdown and an expensive lesson in humility.

In this video, we’ll break down the GUMPS checklist step by step:
✈️ G – Gas: fullest tank, pump on, no excuses.
✈️ U – Undercarriage: gear down, three green, every single time.
✈️ M – Mixture: full rich unless density altitude says otherwise.
✈️ P – Prop: forward and ready if you’ve got it.
✈️ S – Seatbelts & Switches: harnesses tight, lights on, survive the landing.

If you want to look like a pro and stop treating GUMPS like a suggestion on a Post-it Note, this is your video. Say it. Do it. Own it. Because the only thing worse than forgetting GUMPS… is explaining to your instructor why the runway just ate your landing gear.

Congrats to Eric Dupree for his first solo! He’s been putting in the extra work and finally got to go fly by himself while the whole family watched! 🎉✈
