Steven Guillory is the Outstanding Master’s Graduate Finalist for the School of Music in the College of the Arts. He is pursuing a master’s degree in music with a focus on choral conducting.
Guillory has presented academic papers on research topics that include the compositional language of German composer Heinrich Schütz and the harmonic rhetoric of American composer Morten Lauridsen.
He has conducted major ensembles at the University, including its tenor/bass choral, the soprano/alto choir and the chamber choir.
Guillory is director of choirs at Comeaux High School. He was nominated for the Music Educator Award as part of the 2026 Grammy Awards.
He will pursue a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at LSU. Guillory will also launch La Voie de Jeunes, a nonprofit youth choir.

Congratulations to Steven M. Guillory on an exceptional Spring 2026! 🎉
Steven has been named a recipient of the Richard G. Neiheisel–Phi Beta Kappa Memorial Endowed Graduate Award in Liberal Arts, Arts, and Sciences—an honor presented by Phi Beta Kappa, the nation’s oldest academic honor society. Established in 1997, this award recognizes outstanding graduating master’s students in the classical arts and sciences and commemorates the legacy of Dr. Richard Neiheisel, a distinguished member of the University’s History faculty. This semester, Steven is one of only two recipients selected across the university.
In addition, Steven has been named a finalist for the UL Lafayette Alumni Association Outstanding Master’s Graduate Award. This university-wide recognition celebrates excellence in academic achievement, research, leadership, service, and professional engagement. Finalists are nominated by graduate programs across the institution, highlighting the very best of UL Lafayette’s graduating class. The overall recipient will be announced closer to commencement.
A bass-baritone and dedicated educator, Steven serves as Director of Choirs for the Lafayette Parish Schools Performing Arts Academy and is pursuing his Master of Music in Choral Conducting at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. His participation in the 2025 Biennial CantaRode International Choral Festival and his continued contributions to the region’s choral community reflect a deep commitment to artistry, collaboration, and cultural impact.

Thats just one of the many words to describe this group of talented students who just performed in this year’s LMEA District III Honor Choir!
Students worked tirelessly on a beautiful concert set with a renowned clinician and performed the concert this evening in Angelle Hall.
We are proud of all participants, but we’re especially proud of our students for their work ethic and commitment, as well as their vocal ability!

What a beautiful concert! Congratulations again to our amazing students Andi and Cecile who joined an elite group of singers from across the state to perform in this year’s SSAA All-State Honor Choir!
