Edgelea Elementary fourth-grader Oliver Workman was recognized at Monday's LSC Board of Trustees meeting for extraordinary achievement in mathematics.
During his third-grade year, Oliver was nominated for the National Math Stars program, a nationwide initiative designed to identify and support students with exceptional mathematical talent. At the time, nominations were limited to students performing in the top 2 percent statewide, and Oliver was the only student in our corporation selected for nomination.
Over the summer, Oliver completed a rigorous, multi-stage selection process that included advanced problem-solving assessments, spatial reasoning evaluations, and family interviews. Of nearly 9,000 students who applied nationwide, only around 500 were ultimately selected.
We are thrilled to announce that Oliver successfully completed the process and has officially been named a National Math Star.
This recognition speaks not only to Oliver’s remarkable mathematical ability, but also to his curiosity, perseverance and love of learning. Through the program, he will have access to 10 years of mentorship, resources and accelerated learning opportunities.
Oliver, we are incredibly proud of you. Congratulations on this outstanding accomplishment, and we look forward to seeing where your mathematical journey takes you!
