Starting a new school year can be exciting but also overwhelming. New routines, new faces, and new expectations can lead to big emotions and sometimes challenging behavior.
Here’s how to help your child adjust:
✅ Talk through the daily routine each morning
✅ Use visuals, timers, or checklists to create predictability
✅ Allow time for transitions between activities
✅ Give plenty of praise and reassurance for small wins
📌 If your child has an IEP or 504 Plan, this is the perfect time to check in:
Here’s your reminder to:
✅ Email the teacher
✅ Ask if the IEP or 504 Plan has been reviewed
✅ Share any strategies that work well at home
✨ Even positive changes can be stressful! Feel free to reach out if you need help or extra support!

☀️ Summer IEP Tip: Don’t Let Progress Slide!
💡 Summer is fun but it can also be a time when IEP goals stall or regress.
📌 Here’s how to keep skills strong (without making it feel like school):
✅ Read together 10–15 mins a day
✅ Practice communication or social goals during daily activities
✅ Use timers, visuals, or reward charts to maintain structure
✨ Keep it light, simple, and consistent. Need help aligning fun summer routines with IEP goals? I’ve got ideas message me! 💬
💡 The last couple weeks of school aren’t just about field days and countdowns, they’re a great time to:
✅ Ask for updated data on IEP goals 📊
✅ Reflect on what supports worked well (and what didn’t)
✅ Start thinking ahead to what your child might need next year
📌Even if your IEP meeting already happened, you can still request a check-in or review if things feel off.
✨ Not sure what questions to ask or how to prep for a smooth summer-to-fall transition? Send me a message, I’ll help you get clear before school’s out. 💬
🧠 Behavior Tip: The Power of Visuals
💡 Visual supports aren’t just for young kids, they help learners of all ages!
✅ Schedules reduce anxiety
✅ Visual rules create clarity
✅ Choice boards give control
✅ First/Then boards help with transitions
📌 Behavior is often improved just by making expectations visible. Need ideas? I’ve got plenty! 💬
1️⃣ IEP End-of-Year Checklist 📝
💡 The school year’s wrapping up! Here’s what to check before heading into summer:
✅ Progress Report — Did you receive data on IEP goals?
✅ Next Year’s Placement — Do you know the plan for next year?
✅ Transition Plans — If your child is switching schools/grades, is the IEP ready for that?
✅ ESY (Extended School Year) — If eligible, are services scheduled?
✅ Accommodations & Supports — What worked well? What didn’t?
📌 Summer is the perfect time to regroup, reflect, and plan ahead. If you need help reviewing or prepping for fall, I’m just a message away! 💬
🎯 Behavior Tip of the Day: Celebrate the Small Wins!
Change doesn’t happen overnight—especially with behavior. That’s why it’s so important to recognize and reinforce the little steps forward.
📌 Did your child:
✅ Use words instead of yelling once today?
✅ Ask for a break instead of melting down?
✅ Follow a routine with fewer reminders?
👏 Celebrate it! Praise builds motivation and helps those positive behaviors stick.
📣 Progress isn’t always loud—but it’s always worth noticing.
✨ Not sure what behaviors to focus on or how to support progress at home or school? Send me a message—I’d love to help you come up with a plan that works!
📚 Avoid the Summer Slide with Fun Skill Boosters!
💡 Learning doesn’t have to stop when school does—and it doesn’t have to feel like homework!
Try this:
✅ Reading 15 mins a day 📖
✅ Daily life math (cooking, shopping, counting change) 💰
✅ Social skill games like turn-taking or role play 🎭
✅ Practice IEP accommodations (visual schedules, timers, etc.)
🌟 Keep it light, fun, and consistent!

🎒 IEP Tip of the Day: Is Your Preschooler Headed to Kindergarten This Fall?
💡 Pro Tip: If you suspect your child may need extra support in kindergarten—academically, socially, or behaviorally—don’t wait!
📌 You can request an evaluation through your school district BEFORE kindergarten begins. Most schools recommend doing this at least 60 school days in advance so there’s time for:
✅ Evaluation
✅ Eligibility determination
✅ IEP meeting and plan development
✨ The goal? Have supports in place on day one—not months later after challenges arise.
📩 To get started, send a written request to your local school district asking for a special education evaluation. If you need help drafting it or knowing who to send it to, I’m here to help!
