Carencro High School has been selected to compete in the Week 1 Pass It On Challenge, presented by KLFY News 10 and Goodwill Acadiana! We’re going head-to-head with LCA to see which school can collect the most donations—and we need the entire Bear Family to help us bring home the WIN! 🏆

We 💙💛 Coach Joe!

For Joey Dwyer, Carencro has always been more than a school. It has been home, a community, and a place that continues to shape his life.

A member of the Class of 1992, Joey was involved in football, baseball, and Beta Club. The experiences and relationships he developed during those years helped establish many of the values he continues to carry with him today.

One person who had a tremendous impact on Joey was Coach Billy McCauley. At just 17 years old, Joey was given the opportunity to coach alongside Coach McCauley. That experience would become an important part of Joey’s life and eventually influence the way he approaches working with young people.

From Coach McCauley, Joey learned that young people will do anything for you when they know you genuinely care about them. That lesson has stayed with him throughout his career and has become an important part of his approach as a teacher and coach at Carencro High School.

Joey has had the opportunity to experience Carencro football from all sides. He played for Carencro from 1988-1991, watched the 1992 State Championship as a fan and experienced the 2020 State Championship as a coach. While both championships hold a special place in his memories, Joey says the relationships he has built with players throughout the years are what he treasures most.

His advice to current students is simple:

“Where you come from matters, but where you’re going depends on the choices you make every day.”

When asked to finish the sentence, “Carencro built me by…”, Joey shared:

“Carencro built in me a deep appreciation for community. It taught me that giving back to the people who helped you succeed is one of the greatest responsibilities you can have. It showed me the importance of showing up every day, working for something bigger than yourself, and never taking shortcuts.”

Joey’s story is another example of what makes the Carencro community special. The lessons learned, the people who make an impact, and the responsibility to give back continue from one generation to the next.

Join us as we prepare Carencro High School for an incredible 2026–2027 school year!

On Saturday, August 8, from 8:00 AM–12:00 PM, we're partnering with the Love Our Schools Foundation for Serve Day to give our campus a little extra Bear Pride before students return. We invite all clubs, organizations, athletic teams, families, alumni, and community members to roll up their sleeves and help us make a difference.

This event is also part of our CAFE (Community and Family Engagement) initiative. CAFE is Carencro High School's partnership of parents, families, alumni, local businesses, faith-based organizations, and community members who work together to support our students, teachers, and school. Whether you can volunteer, donate resources, or simply stay connected, there's a place for you in CAFE!
