In my latest blog post, I write about how you can have it all, if you're brave enough.
My thoughts on Sex/Life. Could you be brave enough? I thoroughly enjoyed watching Sex/Life on Netflix recently, and I have an issue with it. I want to talk about the ending of the first season, so spoiler alert! You may want to finish the showβs first season before you re...
If you were ever in a relationship that opened up to any form of ENM (poly, swinging, etc), how would you compare the intimacy in your anchor relationship (the one you were in that opened up) before opening up versus after opening up?
***More intimacy before opening up
***More intimacy after opening up
***No noticeable difference in intimacy
Choose one option, and feel free to share your thoughts below.
What is the WORST advice on polyamory you've ever heard?
Today I took a short course (through Relational Life Therapy) on working with couples through infidelity. I find that often couples decide to give polyamory a try after one has been caught cheating. It's almost a way to keep the affair going while not losing the marriage (or committed relationship). Since I'm not one to say "NEVER", I'll just say, this rarely works out well.
One of the points the therapist shared is that you can't fix something that is still going on. So, expecting your partner to heal the wound of betrayal while you are still with the side person, won't work.
Another point from the class was that total open communication is required to rebuild the trust. That means open phones, open texts, open emails. Open everything! No second phone. No hanging out with your friends or staying at work late, without clear and near constant communication with your partner. Yeah, this sucks, but it is the price we pay for choosing to cheat rather than talk to our partner about our needs. If you do this well and rebuild the trust, it should be temporary. It MUST be temporary for you both to get to a place of healthy relating.
The final point I will share is one that really hit home for me, as I work to heal my wounded and abandoned inner child...
The wise adult you doesn't have affairs. Wow!
This class brought up some feels for me, as my ex cheated on me for years, and then we opened up, and he kept cheating. Even poly people cheat!
What do these points bring up for you?
Welcome to Poly Coach Eliza! I am Eliza Riley.
I began my polyamory journey over a decade ago. I was nearing age 40 when I finally realized that my weird way of relating was only weird because I have always been polyamorous. Fourteen years into a monogamous marriage, my husband and I decided to open up our relationship. We made all the mistakes, and after four years we divorced. I used the lessons of that relationship to help others to navigate polyamory in a healthy way when I began hosting discussion groups in 2014.
I received my CNM Relationship Coaching certification in 2021 through Sexual Health Alliance, led by Dr. Elisabeth Sheff. As a professionally trained and experienced ethical non-monogamy coach specializing in polyamory, I have the tools and understanding to help you to create the life you imagine and design the relationships you want.
Today I have many wonderful relationships that are each different and fulfilling in their own unique way. My goal is to help you to have the BEST relationships of your life!
Committing to healthier relationships is just that β a commitment, and itβs a big one that will take effort and dedication. My commitment is to provide you with accountability, understanding and support to help you design and live the relationships of your dreams.
