The Dugas family were able to travel to the Dominican Republic for summer vacation. During their time Fermin and Malani, Spanish immersion students were able to translate for the entire family the whole trip 🥰while being immersed in the culture and learning the importance of the coral reef and the purpose for restoration. It was definitely a reflection of how great the Spanish immersion program have been to our children. 🥇🌎 Meet Quetzicalli — a graduate of the LPSS Spanish Immersion Program, a Louisiana State Champion wrestler, and a future EMT/Paramedic student.
Here's what she had to say about her experience in the Spanish Immersion Program:
"As a native Spanish speaker in the Spanish Immersion program through Lafayette Parish School System for all 12 grades, this program has vastly helped my Spanish language and culture merge with my English American culture. Throughout the years this program has not only taught me the language but how to culturally understand and critically think on how to socialize in typical everyday conversations.
These skills have helped me get my high school diploma, has helped my travels for my national wrestling tournaments, aided in my social life with friends, and has even set me up for my current enrollment to be EMT/Paramedic. I truly believe that without these skills, I would not have been as involved in the Spanish standard."
